Dem, I adore you. I wish I could "like" or pour a shot of whiskey for this new thread 999 times.
I presume the Adams Weekly Courant presented the same level of veracity as exemplified by such flagships of British journalism as News of the World in more recent times--but, fiction or fact, what an utterly charming story! Truly redolent of holly-day cheer.
Doffing invisible cap,
Hel

It's odd how some of these yarns keep bringing to mind beloved old TV shows. The giant man-eating maggots make me think of the Jon Pertwee Dr Who serial "The Green Death." Good fun. One viewer was heard to comment "I'll never be able to eat risotto again after watching that."
Just as on Ab Fab Patsy bemoaned the modern generation's lack of cred with the observation, "Nobody dies choking on their own vomit anymore," one is tempted to add "Nobody is found festering into eviscerated bits on an English heath, their innards gnawed at by giant maggots anymore." But given some of the latest press reports about life and death on the Sceptr'd Isle, Gloriana's Prize, perhaps we should simply wait and see.

Thank you to all Vault contributors past and present, living or dead; the lurkers, the ghosts; the authors, editors, publishers, artists, musicians, actors & Co., who give us something to drone on about; our superb hosts, Proboards and WordPress (especially their respective support teams); and everyone who has in any way helped keep it lurching blindly along. Above all, thanks to Ripper and Franklin Marsh without whom there never would have been any Vault.

Dem, it is yourself that keeps everything running and allows us all to discuss and learn about books, authors, films etc. Thank you for giving us the platform to do all that; it is very much appreciated. A happy and peaceful Christmas to all Vaulters and their families, and here's to a better new year.
