Hopefully the illos won't be lost to posterity - they're terrific. I think they've been safely saved in everyone's computer. I don't think I'm the only one who collects Lady Chrissie's works. They just won't admit it! My fave in last year's Calendar is the one illustrating " The Con" (I also liked the story so much that I ended up getting A Taste for the Macabre, which is a very lovely book). Really can't decide which is my fave for this year's Companion. All of them are so good!

Wonderful to get another of Charles Black's stories, and such an enjoyable one as well, but then they all were. I, too, hope that more may be lurking out there somewhere. What a fine illustration from Chrissie, we are so lucky to have the fruits of her great talent to accompany the tales.

we are so lucky to have the fruits of her great talent Or, really, fruits of any kind! Without fruits we would have scurvy on top of everything.

Day ten
What new merry hell is this? A story by our much-missed friend Charles Black originally intended for inclusion in Black Ceremonies, until he ran out of room. Far as I'm aware, this is it's first public appearance. Hope you "enjoy" ...
Charles Black's stories never fail to be excellent. I enjoyed today's immensely, along with Chrissie's illustration and Malcolm's photo.

Chrissie Demant Day Eleven: Christmas Eve. No huge surprise that last ditch appeal fell on deaf ears, so ... in case of emergency, rip open a mouldering Franklin Marsh vignette from long moribund 'Workshop ...,' add spare seasonal illustration, say merrychristmaseveryone or somesuch ....

Many thanks to Dem, Chrissie and all who took part in this years abridged Vault Calendar. It was something for us to look forward to daily amongst all the doom and gloom of the last month of 2020. I haven't read today's yet but I'm sure I'll enjoy it as much as the previous ones. Wishing all at the Vault a merry Christmas (or whatever you celebrate) and of course a healthy, happy 2021.

Awesome photo, Malcolm. Perhaps you should be glad you never saw the Walker who made those tracks...
cheers, Steve

Another beautiful drawing from Chrissie today, too. I look forward to reading the remaining tales I have yet to savor.
cheers, Steve

Awesome photo, Malcolm. Perhaps you should be glad you never saw the Walker who made those tracks... cheers, Steve They ran up to the cairn at the summit and just ended. No return tracks, none continuing down the far side of the mountain, nowt. I was with a small group from a local walking club and none of them put two and two together until I pointed it out to them. After that, the idea of staying at the summit to admire the view and eat our sandwiches was rapidly abandoned...
