Richard Matheson - Hell House

This is the Corgi 1971 edition, presumably the first UK release. It remains in US spelling, oddly, and has a slightly unedited feel, varying between Matheson's usual taut style and then quite long draggy bits that really destroy the flow. Also, why do people keep "hissing" - shouldn't a copy editor have used some synonyms? I remain fond of the film which, for its time, built up a good head of tension, but this novel, unlike others by the author, is a bit underwhelming.
