Can anyone help me with the title and/or author of this ghost story? All I can remember is the closing line where it is said of the main character that 'he cannot bear the dark - or being touched'.

Closest I can find is A. M. Burrage's One Who Saw? ("He can't bear to be touched, or to hear anybody laugh").

That's the one! Many, many thanks. I had an idea it was an AM Burrage tale, though I clearly mis-remembered that closing line.
