Jeff Gelb & Michael Garrett - Stranger by Night: Hot Blood #6 (Pocket, 1995) Gerber Studios (?) Jeff Gelb & Michael Garrett - Introduction
Tom Piccirilli - Take It As It Comes Ramsey Campbell - The Body in the Window Brinke Stevens - Jacking In Edo van Belkom - End of the Road Michael Garrett - Just Sex Christa Faust - Skin Deep Bruce Jones - Home Movies Graham Masterton - The Jajouka Penis-Beetle Wendy Rathbone - Beached John B. The Contributors Blurb: Graham Masterton, Brian Lumley, Ramsey Campbell, and other masters of the macabre bring 18 new stories to the award-winning Hot Blood series. These sex-driven, horror-laced tales follow only one rule: hold back nothing.
Travel on the high-tech back alleys of cybersex toward primitive passions and the timeless dark. Spy on a woman who unsuspectingly trades her soul for the greatest ecstasy. Watch a visitor to Las Vegas lose a game of strip poker to beautiful identical twins in a way he could never have expected. Meet Angel, a stunning writer with a bizarre cure for writer's block. Filled with dark obsessions and unholy desires, these daring stories are guaranteed to make your pulse pound. That bold 'The Original Erotic Horror Anthology' claim irks - it's not even the first American erotic horror antho - but six volumes in and, for those of us who enjoy this kind of thing, the series still delivers. Tom Piccirilli - Take It As It Comes: Ronald and Beth Danford spruce up their sex life with pathologically violent role play games. Cole isn't to know this when Beth begs him to rescue her from psychotic husband. Brinke Stevens - Jacking In: "Miranda was right. You're a geek and a pervert." Guy Lambert, thirty. A hugely successful software designer, financially set for life, but such a loser in love that even his high tech sex toy, Megabyte Meg - a cybersex upgrade on Frank Zappa's Miss Pinky - ultimately turns brutally against him. Edo van Belkom - End of the Road: An old-timer offers Rory a ride, food and shelter for the night if the virile young hitcher will agree to sleep with his nympho wife. They drive to a remote farmhouse. By now Rory's as edgy as he is horny - is he walking into a trap? A cheery female voice welcomes them from upstairs. Everything's fine ... Outcome recalls that of a particularly unpleasant Alan Temperley horror classic. Christa Faust - Skin Deep: Flash submits her all to a sexy tattooed Go Go dancer at the C*** Club. Michael Newton - Five Card Stud: Tommy Hardwick takes on identical twins, Amy and Amanda, in a game of strip poker he dare not lose. Jeff Gelb - Video Date: Angela Matthews, an assistant at the Milwaukie Movies 'n More, blackmails an annoying customer, George Brenner, by threatening to inform his wife of all the money he spends renting big tit porn titles. Meanwhile, the local serial mutilation-murderer eyes another pair of trophy for their gym bag.

Bruce Jones - Home Movies: Ed is one cop who loves his job. Nights he brings home hard core porno videos to view as he bangs Karen, regaling her the while with the grisly exploits of a serial killer. Karen, sick of the fat slob, takes a fanatically discreet lover who insists theirs is purely a no-strings sex thing, no need for them to even know each others names. It's a terrific arrangement until Karen allows her curiosity to get the better of her. Joint favourite to date alongside Take It As it Comes, End of the Road and Video Date. On reflection, a tragic "snuff movie" sequence qualifies Home Movies as a small scale film crew in peril effort. Brian Lumley - Back Row: (Dave Hughes [ed.] Skeleton Crew V, 1989). The lights go down, the movie begins and loves young dream get into some serious extreme snogging. Lucy Taylor - Male-Call: Beth Dobbs hires a male prostitute, 'Corky', to try out some of the brutal sex acts despised husband forces upon her. Revenge is sweet. Michael Garrett - Just Sex: Angel Peters proposes that she and a fellow erotic novelist embark on an affair, bring some realism to their work. John Franks, happily married with attendant moribund sex life, happily agrees. It's a research project. Just sex. no need for anyone to get hurt - until Angel gets an inkling that John's participation in project is motivated by something other than great art.

Bruce Jones - Home Movies: I always wondered if this is the same Bruce Jones who wrote lots of American comics from Warren's Eerie and Creepy - where he wrote arguably one of the best stories Warren ever produced called "Jennifer" - to Marvel's Conan. ISFDB says yes, but I am not convinced. Can't wait till you get to Graham Masterson. The title alone promises something very unpleasant.

Doubt it's much help, but his Strangers By Night entry reads: Brinke Stevens is the same Brink Stevens starred/ screamed in Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama, The Slumber Party Massacre and other 80s/ 90's slashers. Ramsey Campbell - The Body in the Window: Councillor Woodcock is determined to prevent the twinning of home town Alton with vice-ridden Amsterdam. To this end, he visits the city of sin, trawling its red light district to acquire first-hand experience of just how disgusting it all is. Woodcock is not interested in run-of-the-mill, consensual pairings. He wants evidence of the absolute worst. The fact-finding mission leads him to a particularly diverting window display in the shadow of the old church ... Another strong 'personal favourite of the collection' contender. Ramsey's sanctimonious perverts are ever a joy. And this next is absolutely delightful. Gary Bowen & Edward Lee - Dead Girls in Love: Melanie and Stephanie Brown, eighteen and nineteen respectively, two months dead in their graves, killed in a collision with a flatbed truck while driving to the cheerleader try-outs. The sisters can't rest. They are furious at Willy Parks, star half-back on the Varsity football team, who was screwing each of them behind the other's back. Now, to add insult to injury, Parks brings some Goth chick to the cemetery, thinking to bone her on the sisters' grave. Seeing as it was him fixed their brakes, he might as well finish the job! Have no fear, gentle reader. You can be sure Mel and Steph won't let the bastard get away with it. Not when he owes them each an orgasm. Serious question. Is it still necrophilia when the corpse takes the initiative rather than the other way around? Alexa deMonterice - Getting Wet: Just when she fears she must be turning soft, Ali's skull-busting thunder-thighs rediscover their mojo.

Graham Masterton - The Jajouka Penis-Beetle: Can't wait till you get to Graham Masterson. The title alone promises something very unpleasant. I don't mind admitting it had me squirming throughout. Presumably the editorial guideline was something like "try outgross Eric the Pie!" and, as we know, Mr. M. doesn't do things by halves. Grant Donnolly, entomologist, author of Complete North African Insects, visits Morocco with assistant Suzanne in search of a mythical scarab, reputed to intensify sexual pleasure beyond the realms of sexual ecstasy. They eventually secure two of the blighters in return for a Jeep, but, being know it all Westerners, disregard the warning of the tribal elder. "Never place the two male scarabs in the same box; and never try to insert more than one scarab into your penis. Male scarabs are small, but they are more aggressive than scorpions. They will fight each other to the death."Back at their hotel, Donnolly, Suzanne and their guide get down to business. Their no holes barred three in a bed romp turns necrophiliac without them even realising. Wendy Rathbone - Beached: Cecily, an avid reader of romantic novels, is so morbidly obese she can no longer leave the bed and relies entirely on the tender care of her sainted mother. A late night intruder briefly upsets her eat-defecate-eat-eat-read-eat-eat routine. Yvonne Navarro - Impulse: Gabriel is awaiting Audrey in the airport car park when he's waylaid by Lilah, a chameleon woman, who insists he take her on holiday in place of his long time fiancee. Gabriel inexplicably complies, ruins everything dear to him until "You are all used up and I'm through with you." John B. Rosenman - Hot Phosphor: Lonesome Arthur Gruber, a short, 130lb wimp in thick glasses, registers with USA Ultraline. As sex fuhrer 'Rex Stud' he embarks on a cybersex romance with 'Reddy Teddy,' ultra-submissive, loves a big one, etc. Harmless fun - until his playmate insists they meet in the flesh. Brian Hodge - Godflesh: Elle, having exhausted her sexual repertoire, is doubtful she will ever experience the ultimate fulfilment. Then one day she spots a man in a wheelchair blissfully wanking himself stupid in the middle of the street. Adam introduces her to the joys of the extreme self-amputatee orgy. Viva Las Vegas!

This is getting more and more from the "maybe" to the "next buy" - list.
And the Masterton sounds really sick. Squirming, indeed.

Although the self-aggrandizing intro irks - did me, anyhow - and not every story hit personal hot spot, I think this may be my favourite of those read to date after Hotter Blood. Had my money's worth out of Dead Girls in Love, The Jajouka Penis-Beetle, Home Movies, Godflesh, and The Body in the Window to name five. Neat mix of sad stories and sick laughs.
