Peter Haining - Agatha Christie's Poirot (Boxtree Limited, 1995, 142 p.) In 1920, Agatha Christie write her first book, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, which introduced us to Hercule Poirot, the Belgian detective, whose "little grey cells" have managed to solve dozens of mysteries. Today Poirot remains one of the most popular character in detective fiction, on film and television.
Agatha Christie's Poirot goes behind the scenes of the LWT series and reveals the production secrets of the programme.
David Suchet, the critically acclaimed and much loved star of the new series, talks exclusively about his role as Poirot.
The history of Poirot is examined in a detailed section which looks back at the previous actors who have played the detective on the stage, in films, and on radio and television, prior to David Suchet.
This celebration of Dame Agatha Christie's most enduring character is essential reading for all Poirot fans and lovers of detective fiction. This is the only non-genre book I have from Haining. It is nicely written with a lot of of photos, but I was a bit disappointed. Guess I had expected something more in-depth. Also it concentrates naturally on the first seasons and not the later tv-movies, which are more interesting in many regards. I wonder if Haining wrote it himself or if this was ghosted.
I never realized that Poirot is 100 years old. If you look at the last decade, it is hard to imagine its creations still to be read or seen in 2120.

I wonder if Haining wrote it himself or if this was ghosted. I wonder too! The two novels, The Hero and The Savage, were famously ghosted, but it never crossed my mind that he may have contracted out some of the non-fiction titles.
