That really sounds amazing. It's bloody gorgeous. Kevin O'Neill, Legend Horror Classics #1, 1975. 'Putrid' Matt Carr, Deep Red: Relaunch issue, June 2018. Justin has wisely stuck with a winning blueprint - plenty to ogle, loads to read. Some personal favourite bits. Jim O'Brien stalks the king vampire of the undead through Brit comics, advertisements and ice-lolly wrappers of the '70's and '80's. Along with the expected House of Horror, Halls of Horror, Scream, 2000AD and Co, Jim commendably finds room for Shiver 'n Shake, Misty, Monster Fun and the Walls ice cream 'Count Dracula's deadly secret' promotional strip. In joint first place, Justin's twenty page celebration of Tom Sutton's artwork for Creepy Things, Haunted, Beyond the Grave, Monster Hunters, Scary Tales, etc. I particularly like the capsule guides to the artist's grisliest, squelchiest strips - A Lovely Night in Paris ( Ghostly Haunts #41, 1971) looks an absolute stormer for starters, while anyone who can let loose a plague of demonic flesh-eating Brussels sprouts on humanity is OK in my book. Another definite highlight, Kevin O'Neill's hilariously tasteless extravaganza's for poster magazine Legend Horror Classics, perhaps best exemplified by his 'The Jokers' cover for issue #9. The interviewees (more about whom soon, I hope) are, as you'd expect, an enthused bunch. Was tempted to scan Emanuele Taglietti's bloody cover painting for Eric Wright's Midnight #5 but am not sure our kind hosts would be too thrilled were I to do so. Editorial includes welcome news that Stephen Jones' The Art of Pulp Horror (due October), includes a chapter on 'seventies horror paperbacks - written by Mr. Fanatic! More to follow ...
