Would Charles Braunstone's "Suitable Applicant" from Pan 8 count? I think the women there were supposed to be secretaries, not maids, but maybe it's conceptually similar enough?

Emma S. Duffin - The House-Party ( The Spectator, 3 January 1931). Maid-in-peril tale placed second by MRJ in a ghost story competition. Read it on the G&S website. The author may (or may not) have been Emma Sylvia Duffin (1883-1979), a WWI nurse from Belfast whose war diaries have been published.
