Robert Weinberg - The Devil's Auction (1988, BMI, 310 pages)
Robert Weinberg wrote a few novels. A lot was for some Shared Universe. His "Red Death" Trilogy was for Vampire The Masquerade, which has gone into obscurity (at least this is my impression). But he started two series about occult investigators.
The Alex Warner novels stopped after No.2, Weinberg concentrated on his occult detective Sidney Taine. The Warner novels I have as entertaining in memory. Very tongue in cheek, lots of auction and the usual myth mix of urban fantasy as became fashionable at the time. I guess if such things were published today the blurb would be "For fans of Supernatural." the covers were first rate though.
