Jennings, Helen Scott, David Brilliance - Further reviews of selected R. Chetwynd-Hayes workArrived yesterday. Initial impression is an attractive companion volume to Stephen Jones' forthcoming RCH Centenary celebration, Gaslight, Ghouls and Ghosts. Slightly disappointing that the fiction reviewers venture little further than the two Valancourt reissues - The Monster Club and Looking for Something to Suck: The Vampire Stories of ... - and the stuff adapted for film & TV. On plus side, the interior artwork by Jim Pitts, Allan Koszowski and Randy Broecker is suitably gorgeous, the photo gallery is fun, am looking forward reading the original fiction, and very pleased to see a glowing review of Dave Brzeski's Shadmocks & Shivers, personal favourite anthology of 2019 (though Paul Finch's Terror Tales of Northwest England pushes it close). More to follow .....

Marc Damien Lawler - The Resurrection of R. Chetwynd-Hayes: A jolly romp sees Angus Campbell visit his creator's vault in the Graveyard of Dead Writers, only to discover Ronald's corpse has gone AWOL, presumed devoured by the Holstein Horror. Accompanied by Sackrider, a shape-shifting succubus, Angus follows the author's trail through Clavering Grange, Loughville, and Manderville until they arrive at the Monster Club. Special guest star's include Luna the tragic humgoo, Conrad Von Holstein, Sir Michael Sinclair, Erasmus and the lifeless bones of the Last Reverend of Loughville. Plenty of action with at least one properly horrible bit!
David J. Howe - A Visit to Slough: Driving in thick fog, Tom and wife Maria are hopelessly lost when they spot the 'Welcome to Slough' signpost, At first it appears as though the town has been evacuated, until a ghastly shuffling something emerges from the mist. Fiendish!
