(Sundial Press, November 2019) INTRODUCTION: ‘THE WELL-KNOWN WRITER, LUCY HARDY’ - J.A. MAINS A STORY OF A CURSE THAT TERRIBLE CHRISTMAS EVE THE WATCHER IN THE CHURCH PORCH A FAMILY HEIRLOOM GRANNIE’S GHOST STORY THAT DELIGHTFUL STRANGER THE ADVENTURE OF PETER THE MOUJIK LOST AND FOUND A SINGULAR EXPERIENCE LOYALE JE SERAIS, DURANT MA VIE THE CURIOUS STORY OF SUSAN STYLES: A PSYCHICAL ROMANCE MY UNCLE’S PICTURES THE FELL-THORPE GHOST AUNT AGATHA’S HUSBAND HIS REASONS THE WEST ROOM: AN UNRESOLVED MYSTERY THE FATAL RING WHAT JENNY DID INGLESS’S MURDER OUR LADY OF HATE OCCIDENT, ORIENT, OCCIDENT NON-FICTION COUNTRY HOUSES In early 2016, editor J.A. Mains uncovered a short story from 1894 called 'Grannie's Ghost Story' by Lucy Hardy. He reprinted it in An Obscurity of Ghosts: Further Tales of the Supernatural by Women, 1876 - 1903, however, he he was unable to find anything about the author, but recognised the tale as a remarkable example of Victorian ghost fiction and was determined to discover more about her. Three years later, Mains, with noted publishers Sundial Press, are proud to offer a further twenty stories by Lucy Hardy, published under her real name, Catherine Lord, and reprinted for the first time since the late 1890s. In a remarkable feat of detection work, Mains has revealed a fully-formed author who's life was scarred by tragedy and only wrote professionally for nine years before dying in 1901. Seven of the stories will be of interest to lovers of the supernatural; indeed Lord name-checks several contemporary authors within her stories; other tales are replete with the nefarious deeds of con-men, poisoners, puzzlers...and those who come back from the dead. This is guaranteed to be an extraordinary collection from an extraordinary woman.

Fascinating. "A psychical romance" evokes the long-forgotten world of Marie Corelli (once one of the most famous novelists in the world).
Wishing all involved success with the publication.

I've had to pull this book from Sundial Press and another I was due to do with them. Absolutely gutted that this has happened. But when your publisher doesn't contact you for over a month despite you sending emails trying to phone etc chasing them up, hasn't sent files to sign off even though the book is supposed to be going to print, won't send hi-res covers, won't send an advance, then gets their 'assistant' to email you once you send a screamer email to cite publisher's illness, but you've been forewarned by a dear friend that this is a well-used tactic from said publisher in the past - well...

Looking forward to getting my copy through the post, Johnny, but I never expected ever to see you publish a pink cover - though it does look rather distinctive!

I originally went with a white cover, but then realised it would get dirty really quickly. Took the exact pink from the centre of her eyes - it’s: R:255 G:194 B:180
I have to admit it's the most beautiful looking book I've ever produced, and the fastest selling. As we speak, only 15 copies are left out of 115 copies!

All sold out now!
Won't reprint the hardback - might go to paperback in 6 months or so. However I do have enough material for another volume!
Am fucking knackered. And it was £400 in postal charges. £17-£20 per book to send to the USA...
