I have his first two anthos.
The Dreams of Cardinal Vittorini and The Complete Symphonies of Adolf Hitler.
Just read one story so far. Christmas Card. Not bad. I know Campbell extols him.
I heard he wrote a story about M R James. COuld someone point me in the right direction?

Not sure about him writing a story about MRJ, but he did publish a story providing an ending for MRJ's unfinished "The Game of Bear". I recently bought his The Sea of Blood collection (2015), but haven't had a chance to read much of it yet - it's a selection of 23 stories from previous collections, with nine of those coming from the two you already have, so that may or may not be a good suggestion (and it doesn't include "The Game of Bear").

I've read his story "Mr. Pigsny" in The Sixth Black Book of Horror and really enjoyed that. The M.R. James-related piece you're after may be his 2-act play "Love Unknown" included in the volume Shadow Plays. But I couldn't say for sure. www.goodreads.com/book/show/13599864-shadow-plays

The story you are referring to is most likely A Warning to the Antiquary which appeared in the original release of his first collection The Dreams of Cardinal Vittorini. It was reprinted in the omnibus Dramas from the Depths but has not been reprinted since. Mr Happy

Yes, Dr. Terror has included some great ones in the Black Books, including Quieta Non Movere (Charles Black [ed.], Eighth Black Book Of Horror, Mortbury Press, 2011). Read it HERE.

I am a big fan and have at least all the Kindle editions.
But you can overdose fast on him, as I discovered. They tend to blend. I particulary like the stories with a theatre or literature background.
As far as the first two go, I liked In Aracadia,The Golden Basilica. Evil Eye is a more conventional horror story.
There are some stories which are in the vein of James. (Or at least as I understand James, his setting, academia, etc) The Sermons of Dr. Hodnet or The Constant Rake come to mind.

THanks for your time. I read PARMA VIOLETS the other day. It lacked something. Probably more L P Hartley-like than James or anyone else.
