Yes, thanks to you both! I'm about 2/3 of the way through, and of course enjoying it immensely. Looking forward to Uncle Magnus' comeuppance!

What a marvellous image! I'm genuinely privileged to have it adorn my macabre tale. Thanks to Chrissie for that, and to Dem for his kind words. Chrissie is well pleased you liked it, Dan. I wasn't being "kind" by the way. That story deserves a far wider audience than 13 plus our very few regulars. Forgot to add Dan's note that 'The Longman' takes its title from "an area of Inverness near the river where they used to perform hangings." That might be the last of the illo's for a few days, not that the stories need them. It could be that we run some stories unadorned, though will TRY add pictures at a later date (drawback of compiling these things on the fly - there's never enough precious time).

Day nineteen Chrissie Demant ... man of a million projects Of which only one or two ever come to light, thanks for not kicking that open goal! Very strange, but only a few weeks ago, at the age of 42, I was diagnosed with ADHD, more commonly known as the 'little bastard disease' - explains a HELL of a lot. I get pills soon, I'll feel like I'm 20 again, like the days when chewing on a load of base speed and feeling 'level' was the norm... Chrissie, my deepest, deepest thanks to you for this artwork which really makes the story sing. You have single-handedly saved Christmas and given me nightmares for the rest of my life. Jx

Unusual tale from Johnny which I really enjoyed, and thanks to the author and Chrissie. I can't believe we are already on day 19. It seems like only yesterday that the calendar began.

The contemporary stories have all been brilliant. Dan's is a really substantial tale - a great late-night read.

Belatedly catching up on this thread, and having just feasted on the tales by Craig, Charles and Johnny, a hearty thanks to all for providing such chilling delights. Marvellous work, all!

Ta, all. Story came about when I gave myself an hour to write as much as I could based on a one word prompt.I only wrote two stories in the end as I found it quite a stressful thing to do! The first word was 'hole' and the second prompt was 'hand' which manifested itself as a short story called 'The Third Hand'.

Day twenty; The Mortkirk Horror. Chrissie Demant Sorry it's late, but well worth the wait I'm sure you'll agree. Here's Anna Taborska's account of the horrible fate which befell a clergyman who researched too deep into a local legend. Cyril's Mission first appeared in Alex Davis [ed.]'s theme anthology 'Worms,' Knightwatch, 2014, and, we hope, will soon return in her second, long-awaited collection, Bloody Britain. Thanks, Anna!

A tale from the talented Anna is always a treat, and I am saving this one for tonight's bedtime reading.

Yes, thanks, Anna! What better Christmas present than a story about a giant slavering sharp-fanged giant worm? I can't think of one...but I felt very sorry for poor Father Cyril.

Day twenty-oneChrissie Demant Nigel Taylor returns from the grave with a second mischievous macabre fable. As with the magical Mystery Tour, there's a dash of a certain Amicus horror production about this one ... Support your local Worlds of Strangeness. com!
