Gothic Light #1(1991) All the 'Gothic Light' issues I have were certainly a significant highlight of the Small Press scene in the early nineties. One of my all-time favourites. All covers were printed on see through material (perspex?) Brave New World PublishingEditor: Abelardo Arenas Cover: Todd E Tuttle Implosion #6 (1997) A Journal of the Bizarre and EccentricThey always contained a lot of fiction. Publisher: Implosion, Florida

The woman on the cover of Implosion doesn't look very distressed to have a rodent on her forehead.

And if there are requests for any of my specific contributor mags (on this 'wild throughput' of a thread) to be single-threaded and further-detailed, please let me know. Aklo would be a good one to start with! The next post shows probably the best and worst of the covers to be in the Ark. Now des. which is the 'best' and which is the 'worst' of this winning pair, then? I suspect your choice of 'best' (in my opinion, there is no 'worst') would be the polar opposite of mine. ratty girl is a stone cold cert for the 'phwoar!' thread. here's the undated Gibbering Madness debut. i remember the day this arrived very well as the envelope weighed about 3 tons due to all thee flyer's editor Evan had included. i immediately sent off for the Sheffield Hunt Sab's punk compilation cassette Hunt Scum Your Time Has Come which featured a tasty cover of hanging on the telephone by doom (i think). Evan's editorial set the tone: The reasons I've decided to start this magazine are:
1) I think the prices of books and magazines are absolutely horrendous. 2) It's the sort of magazine I would buy. 3) I want it to be a platform for anyone who wants to see their work in print. whether it's short stories, poems, articles/ comments/ letters on anything you like to do with horror/ weird art, fiction, films or things. Basically, you send it to me and I'll print it. The magazine is accessible to everyone and anyone - as you will see in this issue, there are things by people of all ages. from that manifesto, i'm sure you'll all realise why Gibbering Madness was an easy magazine to love.

Aklo would be a good one to start with! I've got 3 editions, including the cover you originally posted. I'll give it a go when I've re-read some of the stories. I think Mark S is a big expert on AKLO. It's a 'Machen' mode of mag, I reckon. Depending on my mood, I have an opinion that is a polar opposite to my own!

yeah, i'm thinking mark is the best man for the job. i'll see if i can press-gang him into giving us the inside scandal on 'aklo' if and when i see him tomorrow (can't wait, all excited). i've issues 1-4 and it really is impressive, an absolute godsend to machen and yellow book aficionado's i'd have said, but one of those publications i don't feel in the least qualified to talk about on account of it being dead brainy .

I've got a complete run of AKLOs, so I'll have to dig them out and prepare for this endeavour. I've also got an AKLO badge! Mark S.

I've also got an AKLO badge! Mark S. ah! but do you have a Secret Order of the Undead hankie - answer me that! thanks mark. Aklo is one of the very best small press publications i've seen, although that may not come over as quite the accolade intended given some of the other titles i'd include in my top thirteen ....

I guesstimate that I have reached about HALFWAY in the covers I'm likely to post here, taking into account that the only covers I'm showing are from mags that are: (1) at least genre-related, and (2) capable of an at least reasonably netogenic cover, and (3) published up to 2000, and (4) contributor copies of DFL, and (5) the sole representatives of each mag title (for example among the last batch, I have seven different contributor copies of IMELOD). des

des The only other web page I found to use that word netogenic was truncated after 250 words! And serve it right! "Differential Effect of Selective D-1 and D-2 dopamine Receptor ...netogenic. In summary, selective D-1 and D-2 dopaminergic agonists. exhibited. similar. antiparkinsonian. benefit. in nondrug-naive. MPTP-treated primates. ..."

The only other web page I found to use that word netogenic was truncated after 250 words! And serve it right! Well, 'netogenic' should be a word! BTW, I'm now hoping to have a micro-sabbatical from posting covers before starting again. PS: I've now entered 'netogenic' on this page (use 'find' to see it) and linked it to this page.
