When popular TV shows & Co. do football Yet another total dead rubber but it was great fun to "research." With thanks to the Non-League Matters forum whose fascinating thread, Grounds in TV progs or films, provided the inspiration and 99% of the spadework. A Touch Of FrostDead Male One. (1995). Frost investigates the death of Denton Athletic's mouthy star player, Adie Carr. Episode features a very young Danny Dyer as a Shaun Everett, Denton's #1 fan, some years before his hooligan turn in The Football Factory. Denton Athletic FC play their home games at Halifax Town's Shay Stadium. On The BusesThe Football Match. Luxton Depot versus the Basildon Bashers. According to Mishi of the Dulwich Hamlets FC Rabble: "Champion Hill has often been used for filming, the old ground and the new. 'On The Buses' filmed a 'clippies v. the conductors & drivers' football match in the early seventies. I remember all the film crew & buses driving through my estate." The Persuaders Read And Destroy (1972). Danny Wilde (Tony Curtis) meets Pfeiffer of the CIA on the pitch at Watford F.C.'s Vicarage Road. The Professionals Rogue. (1978). Bodie and Doyle intercept CI5 co-founder Barry Martin outside Vale Farm Sports Centre, home to Wembley F.C. Martin is a legend, but has his head been turned by money? (speaking of which, the Lions are fund-raising for a club shop, so should any passing philanthropic trillionaire like to help - crowdfunder) The Wembley FC programme of bloody doom. Pie In The Sky Return Match (1997). A Police team take on a Security firm's XI at Marlow FC. The cops' star striker is Kirk Flowerbridge, a former pro whose career ended in disgrace. Henry Crabbe, the big-boned detective cum master chef, is tasked with keeping Flowerbridge off the bottle, solving a local crime spree, and running a restaurant. The Fall: Kicker Conspiracy (1983) "FANS! ! ! Remember, you are abroad!/Remember the police are rough!/Remember the unemployed!/Remember my expense account! Hot dogs and seat for Mr. Hogg!/Hot dogs and seat for Mr. Hogg/ And his grotty spawn!" Promo video for M.E.S. classic, partially filmed at Burnley F.C.s Turf Moor. The Bill A Good Result (1989). PC Yorkie Smith infiltrates Sunhill's top football hooligan firm in couldn't-make-it-up-but-unfortunately-someone-did expose of war on the terraces. "Search down his neck - even average Joe fans are forever hiding machetes on a bit of string!" CasualtyPenalty 1990. A violent tear up on the terraces at Holby sees several fans injured and a woman trampled to death. Filmed at Newport County's Somerton Park.

Fantastic stuff! Shame I have no technological skill whatsoever, otherwise I'd be tempted to post Loftus Road's finest escapades (other than hosting Yes and Barry McGuigan) in the form of Suzanne Danielle's blistering sex rampage through an entire footballing eleven in Carry On Emmannuelle (so more of the dressing room than the pitch) and doubling as Che Stadium (named after the Bolivian guerrilla leader Che Stadium), scene of The Rutles' final live performance before a paying public in All You Need Is Cash.

And wasn't there a football interlude in one of the Confessions ... films? Minder episode Last Orders at the Winchester (1986) is built around the inevitable Police XI versus Winchester Club regulars charity match at Southall F.C.'s Western Road ground (since demolished). Also Diana Dors versus Brentford F.C. at Griffin Park in Talking Pictures favourite The Great Game (1953).

And what's wrong with that bloke's legs on the right?

What an outstanding line up. Put me in mind of the only 'celeb' match I saw. Our local landlord was a Brentford fan, and back in 1985 they got to Wembley courtesy of the Freight Rover Trophy, amother Mickey Mouse award as compensation for English teams being banned from Europe after Heysel. A number of his customers travelled up, to join him in Misery as the Bees were vanquished 3 - 1 by Oldham Athletic, I had vague memories of a pre-match match involving an England '66 team vs an LBC XI, but could only remember Alan Mullery and Rick Wakeman turning out. Tried to find out more (Elton John confirmed as presenting the trophy - as well as meeting the teams beforehand to jeers of 'It's the Queen Mother') All I've been able to turn up is this I saw George Best and can't remember it? Apparently they were worried not many would turn up, and the other match was a benefit for victims of the Bradford fire.

Just to update you on this....I actually played in this match and am the bloke pictured between George Best and Bobby Charlton! Just came across this photo which I don't think I'd seen before. I can tell you everything you'd like to know about this match and then more! In fact I even made a website about it >> The Day I Played at Wembley What an outstanding line up. A late 60s/early 70s episode of Coronation Street featured some of the Rovers Return patrons in a footie match against a rival pub team. Can't remember it too well, but assume Rovers Return would have featured the likes of Ray Langton, Len Fairclough, Jerry Booth, Alan Howard etc. Maybe with the great Stanley Ogden as manager?
Okay, this one is a bit of a cheat, but popular TV sitcom Porridge's big screen outing was built around a match between Slade prison and a Celebrity 11, with a highly reluctant Fletcher acting as coach of Slade, all set up to facilitate an escape by an armed robber.

The 1975 Sweeney episode "Ringer" filmed at the aforementioned Champion Hill ground of Dulwich Hamlets.
And anyone remember the Cherie Lunghi vehicle The Manageress? Don't know where they filmed it though.

This may be a bit tangential. In one episode of Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? Terry and Bob make a bet with someone that they can go the whole day without hearing the score of a Bulgaria vs England game that was going to be shown at night as highlights. After making it, they sit down in front of the telly to enjoy the highlights only to find out that the game had been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Two episodes from popular 70s sitcom Man about the House...
Series 1 Episode 6 'Match of the Day' Robin is due to play in a football match but catches a cold from landlord Mr Roper. He is fed various cures by Chrissie and Jo, and makes the match, but gets a big surprise.
Series 4 Episode 1 'Home and Away' Robin and Chrissie borrow Mr Roper's car to attend the Southampton vs Arsenal match, but it breaks down.

Man about the house starring the legendary Yootha Joyce. I bought one disc of early episodes just to see Yootha. H. Kenneth Williams in his diaries mentions Yootha singing a song. I know nothing about Man About the House. Should I try it?
