Stumbled across a mention of this forthcoming volume from the author of Horrorstör and My Best Friend's Exorcism, a non-fiction, illustrated look at horror paperbacks of the '70s and '80s. Paperbacks From Hell is due from Quirk Books in September. Even the cover suggests it's the kind of thing Vault of Evil inhabitants might like... www.gradyhendrix.com/#/paperbacks-from-hell-1/

I'm hopefully going to be writing one from a British perspective - just waiting for talks to begin.

I also pre-ordered it, but I am a bit vary. Saw this first announced on Will Erickson's Too much Horror Fiction blog who was a contributor in some regard. It all depends on the Approach, I guess. Hopefully it will have lots of covers.

Hopefully it will have lots of covers. Am hoping for plenty of Leisure Book content - not too worried about the covers because we have Paperback Fantatic & Co for that. The '70's Brit pulps have been done to death over past decade but seems to me there is plenty of mileage still to be had from US, Aus, Europe & Rest of World.

I got my claws on a copy of this yesterday. Grabbed it from Waterstones, as Amazon had put the delivery date back. It's a nicely hefty tome, with a good balance of text and illustration. Plenty of covers, and even some early drafts and sketches. The captions are a bit tongue in cheek, but the text seems to avoid this approach. Have only dipped in, but I'm looking forward to a proper read.

Grady Hendrix - Paperbacks From Hell (Quirk, Sept. 2017) Introduction Prologue
Hail Satan Creepy Kids When Animals Attack Real Estate Nightmares Weird Science Gothic & Romantic Inhumanoids Splatterpunks, Serial Killers & Super Creeps
Selected Credits & Publisher Biographies Afterword Credits Acknowledgements IndexTurned up yesterday. Daren't make a start on it just yet as I've too many books and mags on the go, but God, it's tempting. No shortage of cover scans, Andy, in fact the lay out is reminiscent of Paperback Fanatic, just on a coffee table scale. Chapter headings alone tell you Grady Hendrix is a kindred spirit. Leisure & Zebra titles feature prominently. Very pleased to see a chapter devoted to the Gothics. Currently £13.40 on Am*z*n uk, incl. p&p, which is shorthand for a steal.

It finally arrived.
Absolutly wonderful! In every regard. I don't say this often, but this is a must-have.
And it is nice to see that Dem's and Justin's work got mentioned.

Could hold out no longer. Started reading Paperbacks From Hell in the early hours, thinking I'd take in the intro, maybe the opening chapter. Next thing I knew it was six AM, time to get up, and I'd damn near finished it. An absolute joy to read, let alone look at. How lovely to find such enthusiastic coverage of familiar titles. How even better to read equally rave reviews of stuff I suspect many of us have never heard of, let alone explored. Wants list is now so stupidly unreasonable I don't even wanna think of it. This, remember, is the stuff that is forever taking the rap for "killing" the horror boom. It really didn't, you know.
God help you all but am planning to attempt some kind of "review" over weekend, though truth to tell, I suspect the unanimously favourable comments to date have already told you that PFH is an absolute gem.

I also began a list. So many books that were new for me. So many covers which are awesome. An absolute joy to read, indeed.
