Dipping into my copy with relish (two bottles), I come upon a reference to Ogre Books in Liverpool. Might you even have encountered Pete Atkins or me there? Hope you enjoy it. I've whatsapp-ed Ste to ask him about that (that was one of his bits!). I'll get back to you! EDIT: not to the best of his knowledge but you did used to come to Forbidden Planet and chat with our mate Chris. It was actually conversations in the shop that lead to the book being written.

If anyone is interested, we just had an hour long interview on Radio Tees on the Bob Fischer Sits In show. It ran from 2pm to 3pm and should be on iPlayer radio soon.

Still loving the book, by the way. Though I've already impulse bought a shed load of those Network DVDs after reading the first hundred pages. I'm glad you like it. I really should copy and paste this post in a message to Network, we should be getting jobs in their PR department!

You really should. I think I've spent well over a hundred based on the recs in the book and I haven't started on the New Scotland Yard releases yet. They'll be my next buys.

Has anyone seen a show called Wanderly Wagon? Apologies if it's in the book and it's somehow slipped my attention when going through. I just heard David O'Doherty talking about it and apparently it aired in Ireland in the 70s and he describes it as one of those oddly mystical shows that kept popping up through the 70s, and there's an evil snake who traumatised a generation of children in Ireland.

I thought there were no snakes in Ireland.

Apparently the wagon flies through space so they're probably covered.

Never heard of Wanderly Wagon before, but there's at least one full episode on YouTube, featuring Frank Kelly, aka Father Jack Hacket from Father Ted, as Doctor Astro. The series ran from 1968 to 1982. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7awsm58PRzs

Frank Kelly apparently does the voice of the snake - Sneaky Snake, as well. Unless he's telling everyone to Feck Off I'm going to be hugely disappointed. David O'Doherty was talking to Stewart Lee about it because apparently O'Doherty's dad played keyboards on the bizarrely funky theme tune.

Weird, Firefox won't let me post on proboards anymore. Anyhow, here's a link to an almost hour long interview that we did for the book last Thursday on BBC Radio Tees if anyone is interested. We start about five minutes in (just after the news and weather!) Interview

If anyone is interested, we just had an hour long interview on Radio Tees on the Bob Fischer Sits In show. It ran from 2pm to 3pm and should be on iPlayer radio soon. Did anyone yet recommend the joyous article by Bob Fischer in the new Fortean Times (354)? "The Haunted Generation: From children's TV to public information films, the 1970s were suffused with melancholy and disquiet. Bob Fisher discovers how Penda's Fen and the Spirit of Dark and Lonely Water inspired a generation to creativity and ponders the future of popular hauntology". I've just finished reading it and (although I pre-date the generation he discusses) I can totally identify. This FT has an article on Hookland too, so I reckon it's the best issue for months.

Bought that today myself! Bob really knows his stuff, during that interview we were chatting constantly even during the musical interludes, and he was really on point with everything.

I have chronic tendonitis in both thumbs which doesn't look like it's ever going to get any better (poor old soul!), so I can't tackle a huge book like this one without a lot of pain, much as the subject matter appeals greatly to me. I could, I suppose, get the book and rip it into handleable sections (er, get someone to rip it for me, that is!), but that would be a horrible thing to have to do. I'd really like to cover the M.R. James section in Ghosts & Scholars though. Would there be any possibility of my reading the text of those pages and any other relevant sections?
