Justin Marriott [ed] - Men Of Violence #6 (March, 2017) Danger Diabolical. Review of Bob & Dusty Sang's Deadly Companions Letters of Violence. Just the one supportive communique from Clive Davies. Dennison's Army. Adam Lassiter's '80's Men's Adventure series. Bloody Brits. The Nel, Futura, & Sphere approach to the genre. Submission. Richard J. Harper's The Dragonhead Deal Lost In Translation. Checklist of US & UK paperback editions of the San Antonio series. The Great Game. Ramsey Thorne's Renegade 'Adult westerns.' The Executioner versus Michigan General Corps. A whole lot of court appearances for Don Pembleton and The Executioner"There's more than enough sleaze, degradation, blood and guts for even the most jaded of consumers." The editor's considered appraisal of Adam Lassiter's Dennison's War: #1 (Bantam, 1984) might be applied to any issue of Men Of Violence. While each House Of Fanatic publication has its own distinct identity, it's the monochrome, relatively lo-fi throwback, MOV is the anomaly, and not just in terms of production values. Men Of Violence is a speed-written commentary on sample volumes of various disreputable series' featuring this or that lone vigilante versus everything. If it's subtlety you're after, you have so taken a wrong turn. These novels sink or swim on their capacity to wallow in MINDLESS VIOLENCE and proper BAD SEX. Torture murder, assault by everything from machete to machine gun, a decapitation here, a castration there - the guys are just as bad. Occasionally one of these titles will emerge with a glowing report, a case in point being Richard J. Harper's The Dragonhead Deal (Warner, 1975: "a top-secret arms shipment, a hijack no survivor would dare to report, and an impossible love that happened anyway"), but often as not, an article will end in reviewer conceding defeat as paperback in question proved too boring/ stupid/ insincere/ offensive/ incomprehensible to persevere with. Bob & Dusty Sangs' "diabolical" Deadly Companions (Belmont Tower, 1977) has likely gone collectable even as I type .... The black sheep of the Fanatic fold - even The Sleazy Reader has less anti-social habits which is saying something - MOV is arguably Mr. Marriott's most selfless public service of all. This man reads Renegade #9; Hell Raider starring Captain Gringo so you won't have to.

This man reads Renegade #9; Hell Raider starring Captain Gringo so you won't have to. But, but Captain Gringo is fun. In a very questionable kind of way.
I have to confess that I never knew the series even existed before reading about in the PF for the first time. Now I own half the series. I never will be a fan of Cameron's style, but sometimes this series is a nice read.
I only read MoV so far, and even after all this time I marvel how Justin keeps up this level of quality. As always the featured coverart is worth the price alone. I would never read a series like "Don Miles"because car stuff bore me to tears, still reading about it is very interesting.
But the highlight for me is his article about the Pendleton case. So well written!

Andy, I salute you! Funny thing, the recommended titles don't tempt me as much as the avoid-at-all-costs, but it's such a joy reading about them. Car stuff does nothing for me either, but made it through a motor-racing thriller quite recently: GNS's Blood Circuit. Not exactly a second Abominations but less an ordeal than feared. Would love a copy of the Sphere Challenge At Le Mans for obvious reasons. Agree the compact version of the various Pendleton law suits is a MOV classic. Love the abrupt anti-review of [Deadly Companions. The body of work. Frightening that the début is approaching it's eighth birthday. Men Of Violence (June 2009) Men Of Violence 2 (Jan 2010) Men Of Violence 3 (Nov 2014) Men Of Violence 4 (Aug. 2016) Men Of Violence 5 (Oct. 2016). The critics choice. "It gave me a hard-on" - Clive Davies.

Not for the first time, when reading one of Justin's publications, this issue had me logging onto ebay about 2 minutes after opening the cover. A copy of "The Devil's Ring" by Don Miles is now in my possession, though I've little inclination to actually read it! Highlight of the issue was the exhaustive account of Don Pendleton's legal issue over "Executioner" series - fascinating stuff, with the promise of more to come.
