Sorry to parachute in here like this, but I'm a longtime lurker and I'm currently wrapping up a book about the boom in horror paperback publishing in the 70s and 80s. I'm desperately trying to ID some cover artists to make sure they're credited and I thought that you guys might be able to help. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. |

Can't give you a 100% definite but I'll go Alun Hood for Scorpion and Scorpion Generation.

I'll buy that for a dollar. Do you think it's the same artist, though? SCORPION has a slick polished look to the scorpions (plus those crazy tiny eyes) whereas the SCORPIONS SECOND GENERATION scorpion looks to be painted in a more realistic vein. Which looks more Alun Hood to you? The original or the sequel? I just don't know his work well enough.

Not sure if either of those Scorpion books are by Hood. BUT...If either of them were, it would be the edition pictured on top. Also, I emailed you last night about The Surrogate. I am just about positive that it is Tom Hallman.

Dreamwatcher and Masques are both credited to Alun Hood. Strikes me that the styles are very similar (but then I'm blind as a bat and like as not the Scorpions are both by Les Edwards.). More Alun Hood here Murder on the eyeballs

Never saw that Dreamwatcher before. You can see that the painting was heavily cropped to fit onto the cover. The un-cropped version must look spectacular. Interesting point you have made about the similarities with the squinting eyes in each of the paintings; very true!
