Nunkie Theatre - aka actor Robert Lloyd Parry - will be releasing a new video of an M.R. James story reading online for Hallowe'en. RLP, who appeared as MRJ in Mark Gatiss's BBC2 documentary on James, has toured frequently with his readings/performances of the master's stories, and while I've never been lucky enough to see him live, the DVDs and CDs he released of earlier recitations have made me a big fan. Info from Nunkie's Facebook page... Who is this who is coming?
This Hallowe'en join the worldwide Nunkie community in watching the newly filmed performance of M R James's extraordinary and creepy tale "Oh, Whistle and I'll Come to You, My Lad" performed by Robert Lloyd Parry.
It will be available to download on Vimeo from midday, UK time, on Hallowe'en, and for the first 12 hours only will cost a mere £2.99 to keep forever...

Filmed in one take, by the light of a single camdle this is performance storytelling at its most simple and effective.
'Lloyd Parry is always absorbing, and catches the sense of dread that gives James his originality.' **** THE TIMES

Adam Scovell has written a book on Folk Horror, which will be out in December, I understand. I'm very excited about this as his Celluloid Wicker Man website (https://celluloidwickerman.com/) includes many interesting articles on this (and other) subjects. He clearly has a good appreciation of MRJ.
