Thanks for the plug, Dem. Though it's a rare non-supernatural radio play from me, there are a couple of little hints toward some of the more... er... recherché cases undertaken by the detective and doctor duo. It's also my first two-hander, and the first of my scripts performed in front of a live audience, so it's something a little different for me.

This seems the most appropriate place to post my appreciation of the great Jim French, whose Imagination Theatre series continued to give new drama a voice and a place in the American radio landscape, and who passed away yesterday. Some 13 years or so ago I learned of an American radio series which, among other mysteries and thrillers, was airing new Sherlock Holmes adventures. I became a fan, and having read interviews with some of the creative team involved, decided to try sending a spec script adapted from one of my own ghost stories to Jim French Productions. I was amazed by how quickly they responded, not only accepting this novice's script but making it their Hallowe'en episode. From pretty much that first moment I was made welcome and became lucky enough to be allowed to join the extended Imagination Theatre family of writers and for a dozen years - until ill-health forced Jim to retire earlier this year at the age of 88 - it was a massive part of my life, which it will always remain due to many friendships formed with other members of that creative family. Without Jim at the helm, the decision was taken to bring down the curtain on Imagination Theatre, although it lives on through its YouTube channel, which carries classic episodes, and the occasional new episode from the regular team. www.youtube.com/channel/UCpDuE6E-NqwKdU0pLhFcYJAAnd the series was celebrated in the recently published Imagination Theatre's Sherlock Holmes, a collection of scripts from all the writers who ever contributed to Jim's The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes series. The book was compiled and edited by David Marcum, with proceeds going to the Stepping Stones School at Conan Doyle's former home, Undershaw; www.amazon.co.uk/Imagination-Theatres-Sherlock-Holmes-Marcum/dp/1787052427 As I said elsewhere, the passing of Imagination Theatre left a gap in the lives of its many fans across America and throughout the world, but the passing of Jim French will leave an even bigger gap in the lives of those who knew him, who worked with him, and who loved him.

Thanks, Dem. After more than 60 years in radio, as well as acting and voice work for video games, I think he leaves behind a huge legacy of strong work, and he was very supportive of actors and writers and other creative people. kixi.com/remembering-jim-french/
