While the way the World Fantasy Award has dealt with the Lovecraft issue is not very intelligent or charming, it is perhaps not much better that some other organization has appropriated his name for an award because he was a racist.
I also notice Ramsey Campbell is as alert as ever to insults, even implied ones, wherever they appear on the Web. And I do mean wherever.

A curious site. They reviewed my collection Their Cramped Dark World some months ago and I was castigated for being politically correct. Mind you, the reviewer only downloaded a kindle copy of my collection because it was on free offer at the time.

I stopped following the ridiculous HPL debate. I can't believe the WFA caved in to the PC whining. Horrible decision. But this site is even more risible. For all his faults I can't see HPL waving the nazi flagg.
Joshi is of course right in this. Even if giving back his awards is a kind of an empty gesture. Nobody will care. But he did raise interesting questions. How can there be a Stoker award or a Campbell award? And what about Hugo Gernsback?

Yeah, and people forget just how much the World Fantasy Awards and the convention owe to Lovecraft - the first one was organised to celebrate his life and achievements and was a huge success.

Oh, I think the silence on the subject from the original poster suggests it was more than implied, and you'll note I spoke on behalf of other recipients too. Really, I could have gone ahead and listed a great many names.

Yes, but why bother? is what I was thinking. In particular on some kind of Nazi conspiracy theory website.

Because the comment I responded to was about the World Fantasy Awards, and I don't think where it appeared should preclude a response.
