I've just heard from a reliable source that Michel passed away this morning. Gutted.
He never really let on quite how ill he was. A really super, genuine guy who was very generous with his time. Hugely supportive of The Paperback Fanatic and Bedabbled!.
Michel, please post that this is misinformation and that all is well....

I'd say it's true - I've been keeping in touch with his daughter - the last time I was in touch with her, he had days...
EDIT - it's just been reported by family members

Oh, that's terrible to hear. From the earlier comments it obviously wasn't unexpected - hopefully he was in no great pain or discomfort at the end.
I know next to nothing about Michel himself other than a few scraps of biographical information and a couple of photos, but his 1970s anthologies were a major part of my early education in horror fiction; I'd imagine the same applies to many others here. As a result, I sort of felt that I "knew" anthologists such as he and Peter Haining ever so slightly, if only enough to be immensely grateful for the pleasure their work had brought me. RIP.

Oh no! Got a feeling Dem introduced me to him at Coppernight. A thoroughly nice chap, supportive of Filthy Creations too.

This is sad. Met him through Dem, and only briefly, but a nice bloke and one with a hell of a history in the genre. Did the work he loved and did it well. Can't say more. There's a thread here somewhere where he relays an anecdote about living below Phil Lithman and trying to write while Chilli Willi & The Red Hot Peppers rehearse electrically above him that says in a few words a lot about the counter-culture he was part of and that fuelled his work and outlook. He was of that time and from it, when all things seemed possible. Anyone who's familiar with his work will miss him at least a little.

I only met him briefly at the WHC in Brighton. He took a few minutes to say some really kind words to me. Seemed a genuinely decent man. Sad loss.

I am just glad that Michel got to see all the complimentary things written about him and his work on vault's mk 1 & 2 while he was alive. Some very lovely tributes on this thread. Note how the word "supportive" shows up a lot - that is certainly my experience of the man - right from our very earliest weeks, he always had words of encouragement, even let us run two of his stories on last years Vault Advent Calendar, making out it was us doing him the favour. Michel's anthologies were such a massive inspiration to so many people - I love the sense of mischief he brought to the game and, judging by one of his later ideas for a collection, he was still up for causing an outcry. Our man of a thousand pseudonyms was such a sweet guy, and I feel blessed to have met him. Goodbye, 'Linda Lovecraft'. We are sure gonna miss you.
