It's probably my only criticism of Paperback Fanatic. I got a glimpse of the Burroughs issue. I had seriously collected Edgar Rice Burroughs since I was ten years old. I thought I knew a lot about Burroughs. After reading Paperback fanatic I realised that after 40 years of obsessive collecting I knew next to nothing. Not only that, I hadn't even seen some of the covers. It's humbling. I am still plagued though by one question and as PF seems to be omniscient can you tell me if there was ever an British four square edition of John Carter of Mars? according to the The Internet Speculative Fiction Database there were four square editions of all Burroughs' Mars books, and as you would expect, some of the covers are absolutely gorgeous. Gods Of Mars (1961) A Princess Of Mars (1961) The Warlord of Mars (1961) The Chessmen of Mars (1962) The Master Mind of Mars (1962) Thuvia, Maid of Mars (1962) Synthetic Men Of Mars (1964) Swords Of Mars (1966) A Fighting Man of Mars !966) John Carter Of Mars (1967) Llana of Gathol (1967) All of these in various editions have gone through my hands Dem and I still have a battered collection on the shelves. You're right the Kirby covers (thanks for that info a while ago)are really splendid. Unfortunately, it's the foursquare Mar 1967 edition I have never come across. June 1968 is the only one you will ever see. I think it was simply never published but who knows. PF no doubt...

The John Carter edition plus two others are here. I get emotional just looking at these covers. Brilliant stuff: Kirby

Just received my copies today. I was getting a little worried they may have gone astray en route to Australia, as James Doig mentioned he'd received his a week or so back, but luckily it was just another example of the oddities of international postage. I've only had a quick flick through so far, but there's some pretty wild stuff there, of which I was blissfully unaware all those years when I was concentrating on SF, Fantasy and Horror books. Probably a good thing really - I have enough collecting obsessions as it is, though an admission like that may be "Vault" heresy......
Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to an in-depth read of these two issues over the next few days. Once again, thanks to Justin for all his work - particularly on this double-the-fun occasion - and to all contributors.
