Not sure I quite followed every last plot nuance, but that didn't prevent my enjoying Der Rächer very much! Bhag, the halfwit werewolf lookalike in dungarees is indeed spectacularly un-PC to a modern audience, though I preferred the scenery-chewing madman with the guillotine. What on earth are 'Savoy Productions' supposed to be filming? At first I thought it might be Kinky Milkmaids - The Musical, but that doesn't seem likely. Couldn't fathom out whether the belly-dancer and bongo interlude had any relevance to the story, but I suppose it was implying the director was an unashamed casting couch opportunist. Wallace's novel has, of course, gone direct to wants list.

Sorry chaps, been wifi less for a week in darkest Essex. Briefly, as lots to catch up with, I have the film of Der Racher on DVD and it's pretty close to the book which is 1916, and features a silent film crew using the judge's house. One CRUCIAL difference is the Bhag, in the book, actually IS a trained and intelligent ape. The dodgy foreign chap slur is purely a Rialto invention...
I saw the trailer and first nine minutes of Dead Eyes on you tube, and would love to see the rest... always the fog!

In that case, The Avenger is definitely on my hit list. Mr. Reeder has been a little unfortunate in that I've hit a bit of form recently, so he's taken a back seat to recent Saxon, Riley & Chetwynd-Hayes acquisitions among others, but will get back to his adventures eventually.

I saw the trailer and first nine minutes of Dead Eyes on you tube, and would love to see the rest... always the fog! I realised I had it on this compilation - quite amusing in parts through inappropriate dubbing and bizarre carry on, but not bad - there's one shot of the inside of a bloke's mouth while he's brushing his teeth. Blind Jack, who must be one of the ugliest bananas in film history, and Klaus Kinski, who takes it all too seriously, steal the show, and Karin Baal, who's quite a fox.

I've found an undubbed full-length Dead Eyes on youtube that I might struggle through - it's not like I don't know the plot! - but damn you, James, I may have to hunt down that dvd pack... is it correct to call you 'lucky' for having seen it? I would say so, but my judgement in such matters may be suspect...

Mr Hack, I doubt I would have watched it if Andy hadn't mentioned it here, but there are worse ways to spend 104 minutes. I suspect it pops up in these cheap compilations pretty often, so I reckon you'll find a copy soon enough.
