That is a nice write-up. I agree that "Arbor Day" may be Danby's finest moment as a horror writer--which is saying a lot. In case you haven't seen it, there's a brief thread on the Nightmares trilogy. Given that your review mentioned one of my other favorite writers, I'll also plug the thread on Alison Prince (which is mostly me going on about how great she is).

Very kind of you to say so, thank you. Will definitely check out the Prince piece - I was fascinated by her wartime/headless chickens story. A very curious thing - I wasn't really scared of that tale when I first read it as a lad, but I was horrified by it as an adult...
