Just started An English Ghost Story. Easy read so far. Will be back if I persevere. Is that the recent-ish Titan edition? Think I saw a copy in the library recently but have too many Newman's languishing on the to read/ complete pile.

I also bought this. Am not far along. It is different then Mr. Newman's usual books. But somehow I detect a whiff of parody in this. But I am curious enough to read on. Can go either way, though.

You're not wrong there, Andy. The use of a writer of children's books, and a frankly bizarre fan club of same catapult this into the ludicrously English category.

...but not quite mad enough. I'm not a huge ghost story buff, but do enjoy Mr Newman's stuff. This is a bit of a departure for him, but very atmospheric and well told. A little anti-climactic but that perhaps fits the toned down nature of the subject matter.
