I cannot read in cars unless I feel like throwing up...
But yes, I have happy memories of horror comics.

There are some interesting-sounding titles in those Misty annuals, Dem. Do you know if they were original to the annuals or were some re-prints from the comics? Some annuals were a bit naughty in that they would re-print strips/stories in the annuals that had already been featured in the weekly comics. I received the first Mighty World of Marvel annual one Christmas only to find that all of the strips had already been published in the weekly comic. One of the most popular stories they ever ran, Moonchild, serialised over the first thirteen issues of the comic, was reprinted in its entirety in the 1983 annual, and there were occasional reprints from early 'seventies issues of Tammy and The School Friend, but it looks as though they favoured all-new material for the most part. The short fiction, from what I can gather, is original to the Annuals and Summer Specials (and there seems to have been quite a bit of it in the comics, too). The eight Best Misty Monthly's are all reprints, but that's great too because the comics would probably have become *shudder* "collectable" by then.

Thanks, Dem. It's not too bad if there's a considerable gap between the stories/strips appearing in the comics and subsequently in an annual a few years later. In the Mighty World of Marvel I got for Christmas the strips were all reprinted from comics from the preceding year. I exchanged it for 20 assorted Marval/DC comics via the "To Swap" adverts that appeared for a time in the British Marvel comics :-).
DemonSpawn, I used to get a bit of car-sickness, especially when it was hot. I remember my mum used to give me little tablets called "Sea-Legs" just before the journey, though I can't remember if they were any good. Just thinking about how we used to pass the time during long car journeys at holiday-time (many cars didn't even have a radio back in the 60s/70s) reminded me about those packs of rub-on transfers you could buy. Were they called Letraset or something like that? Anyway, there was a sheet of transfers and a cardboard scene onto which the transfers were applied. There were all kinds: roman gladiators, jungle, cowboys & indians, outer space etc. I spent many happy hours creating action scenes on long car journeys.
