Robert E. Howard Trails in Darkness (The Robert E. Howard Library Vol VI, Bean Books 1996) cover by C. Kelly Content: Introduction essay by S. M. Stirling The Dead remember (1936) Black Canaan (1936) Kelly the Conjure-Man (1964) The Valley of the Lost (1967) The Man on the Ground (1933) Black Hound of Death (1936) "For the Love of Barbara Allen" (first published 1966 ) The Hoofed Thing (first published 1970) Moon of Zambebwei (1935) (aka The Grisly Horror) The Horror from the Mound (1932) The Robert E. Howard Library from Bean Books was a set of paperbacks collecting all the non-Conan stuff. Maybe it should deserve its own thread as it has some nice fantasy covers by Kelly. The introduction here concentrate on each story and take great efforts to explain the inherent racism of some of the stories.

That's done it, it's sent me searching for the Baen Cormac Mac Art volume I have & now I can't find the bugger (not with my other Howard books)

Most of my stuff having disappeared, I was very grateful to the Mrs for buying me a couple of anthos for my birthday last year. Unfortunately they mainly contain extracts from novels rather than short stories, but a vampire/shape shifter one threw up The Horror From The Mound. What a terrific tale. It's a long time since anything actually gave me an actual shiver but there's a scene in that story....

The Horror From The Mound. What a terrific tale. It's a long time since anything actually gave me an actual shiver but there's a scene in that story.... My favourite REH tale, not that I've read that many - I read it as a kid in the Panther Skull-Face Omnibus Volume 1, with the werewolf on the cover.

Hey all. I'm very partial to "The Valley of the Lost" myself. I first read it back in the 70s in "Marchers of Valhalla" I thinks that his horror stories seemd to be a "hit or miss" kind of things and not nearly as consistant as most of his action stories. "The Black Stone" is another of my favourite stories. My copy. Here's a link to the REH horror collection "Wolfshead" uncledougsbunkerofhorror.blogspot.de/2012/03/normal-0-21-microsoftinternetexplorer4.htmlTake care and enjoy the weekend. Doug P.S. Yes, I'm pimping the living hell out of the blog this week.
