rattling a few cages is a good thing, surely, especially in a genre where it's actually supposed to be unsettling... not everyone likes everything, and if it stirs those that don't like it to complain then by definition it's been a powerful piece of work.
remember the wise words of the great brian clough: if you please all of the people all of the time then you're doing somthing wrong, young man...

As an example I am really unsure about writing another extreme horror story after the response to Bernard Bought The Farm. I FINALLY got round to reading it last night - your post prompted me to, in all honestly - and I don't see what the hoo-ha is all about. A perfectly good, disgusting, ticks the boxes and then some tale that leaves you thinking long after you've read it. And if that's not the mark of a quality tale, then fuck the lot of them! I'm putting a book together for Screaming Dreams at the moment, and I would certainly look at any stories you have. screamingsubmissionsATgmailDOTcom Sorry I haven't replied to honest and positive feedback from my post (my health tried to finish me off in the meantime). However thank you guys for the jolt of perspective it has put a bit steel back into my resolve. Johnny I would be more than happy to submit something to your story collection so that you can consider it

Go for it.
I just watched 'The Collector' directed by Marcus Dunstan - described someone as 'Another relentlessly violent rampage with no discernible point whatsoever.'
Needless to say I thought it was brilliant. It made me queasy, at times I thought 'oh no' but in the end I enjoyed myself. Keep writing away, shocking people needlessly, annoying others, pleasing the ones who you'd probably like to please.
