Very saddened to hear of Michael's passing; a great actor, he will be much missed.

A great loss indeed. A man who always appeared to be quintessentially English.

Alas! Apart from the various roles that immediately come to my mind, he was very good as Van Gogh (yes, honestly).

This is very sad news. Although his Alfred the butler is a model of restraint, i particularly enjoyed his scenery chewing performance as Edmund Bancroft, Britain's premier 'True Crime' writer and newspaper columnist in Horrors Of The Black Museum, surely one of the nastiest movies of it's day. Bancroft's to-die-for Academy of Pain - Frankenstein's laboratory hybrid was far creepier than the waxwork emporium in The House That Dripped Blood, that's for sure. I also like that it was his severed hand did for pompous art critic (and Vault co-founder) Franklyn 'Franklin' Marsh in Dr Terror's House Of HorrorRIP

Bancroft's to-die-for Academy of Pain - Frankenstein's laboratory hybrid was far creepier than the waxwork emporium in The House That Dripped Blood, that's for sure. I also like that it was his severed hand did for pompous art critic (and Vault co-founder) Franklyn 'Franklin' Marsh in Dr Terror's House Of HorrorRIP I just heard of, watched, and thoroughly enjoyed "Horrors of the Black Museum". Great ending; nicely lurid, just how I like them. Poor Joan, I knew she was for it after her outburst and sexy dance at the pub. Amazed to see a) Supt. Graham just toss the murderous binoculars into a desk drawer. So much for forensics in the 60s. b) Joan taking all her clothes off and only taking her heels off to get into bed! Completely unrealistic! c) A collapsible guillotine? Be the first on your block to have one, etc. c) Aggie blackmailing Edmund. What makes people think it's a good thing to blackmail a murderer? d) That acid bath sure turned the doctor into a skeleton in a hurry. Faster than Haighs's d) Rick is quite interesting when he's murdering and quite annoying when he's not. Apart from those, or maybe because of those, great fun!
