Splendid! We've just watched Succubus, which Lady P has pointed out has some things in common with Resnais' Last Year in Marienbad.
Oh yes, we're all Art House at Probert Towers tonight ;->

Yipes! Don't want to hijack the thread. Succubus is on the to watch pile, along with the Marquis De Sade : Justine, Eugenie De Sade, The Female Vampire (softcore 101 minute version), Mansion Of The Living Dead, Oasis Of The Zombies and Virgin Among The Living Dead. Last night was Dr Jeckyll's Mistresses (sic) aka Dr Orloff's Monster. We're all low-budget, b&w, incoherent early Eurohorror at Council House Marsh.

Another episode of Midsomer Murders, yet more spurious book fun in Sins Of Commission which revolves around dastardly goings on at the Midsomer Literary Festival. The guest of honour is best-selling author Jezebel Tripp, currently hard at work on what she promotes as "the ultimate battle of the sexes" novel. In fact, Jezebel has more than a touch of the Linda Lovecraft's about her - she's an actress hired to play the feisty Ms. Tripp at social functions while the real author remains in shadow. Although the real 'Jezebel' describes her smash hit Chromosome Wars as chic lit, from the cover and racy extract Joyce Barnaby shares with us it's closer to erotic sci-fi. Episode is also notable for literary executive Tim Settingfield's scooby doo van and hippy chick hit squad.

Thanks to Mr. Mark Terry's indispensable Fascimile Dust Jackets, have managed to identify two of the books on the St. Trinians school curriculum for 1957. Edwin Lanham's One Murder Too Many (T. V. Boardman & Co, 1953) and the original UK edition of Jack Finney's The Body Snatchers (Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1955). Novel in top right hand corner of screengrab is Gerard Fairlie's latterday Bulldog Drummond adventure, Return Of The Black Gang (Hodder & Stoughton, 1954: scan retrieved from Amazon where it was uploaded by Alex CF of Kent, so thank you, Alex, whoever you are)

Live from the Ed Buchan's History Of Murder book launch. ( Whitechapel, series 4, episode 1). The world's loveliest R*pper*logist plus scary cardboard cut out. Not the clearest of screen shots, but this poster for Ed's opus suggests a familiarity with W. Francis Phillipps cover artwork for Donald McCormick's The Identity Of Jack The Ripper (Pan, 1959). Graham Sweetley brushes up on his Erich von Däniken in Morons From Outer Space.

".... her even white teeth rattled as he slapped some respect into her ..."? Dash my buttons! Who would read such garbage - and in front of a toddler, too! Mr. Roper flaunts his Vault cred in Nappy Days, a typically hilarious 1978 episode of George & Mildred Phwoar!

Another spicy title for bogus vicar Captain “Padre” Mycroft to add to his stash, this one a gift from “Co-operative Removals Limited." ( The League Of Gentlemen, 1960)

Heartbeat (series 18 episode 20; Jobs For The Boys) Keeping a totally sleazy Whitby disco under surveillance can be a dull business, so crafty Alf Ventress (William Simons) has brought along a good book! Then again, maybe ... And Then There Were None might have been the better option. Oh look. somebody named a thoroughly disreputable club after us.
