Merry bloody Christmas! Maybe if they'd not shifted it from the Sunday night slot in the first place, there'd not be the lame excuse of disappointing viewing figures. To my mind, this series has actually improved on the first. Even Lady Fishnet's been given something to do for crying out loud.

Thought I post the good news for a chance.:
Now Omnimystery News brings word that “a third season of 8 episodes will be produced with the same cast, courtesy of Amazon, which also acquired the rights to the first two seasons. It will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime several months before it airs on BBC One and BBC America.” It’s expected that filming will commence soon on this next season of Ripper Street, with at least the first episodes to hit Amazon Prime by the close of 2014.
Thanks to The Rapsheet for this info.
I don't know what is more frightening, the prospect of more Fishnet or that Amazon now has the bucks to produce.

Ripper Street Series 3 is due to start on the BBC "this month" apparently. I've also read that they "have to" cut 6 minutes from each episode to make it "fit" the schedules... which is just plain stupid. And, Am*z*n have already commissioned TWO MORE series!

Ripper Street Series 3 is due to start on the BBC "this month" apparently. I've also read that they "have to" cut 6 minutes from each episode to make it "fit" the schedules... which is just plain stupid. Not sure how true that is about the cuts, but caught the series 3 opener last night and it all seemed to hold together just fine. SpoilerFour years on from the traumatic events of series two, Reid, now bereaved and embittered, is reunited with his former colleagues when two trains collide on, or at least, above their Leman Street doorstep. Lady Fishnet has successfully reinvented herself as a local Saint, finds herself implicated in the preceding rail robbery via her latest business partner, and with fifty-five dead and as many maimed, the publicity could prove fatal to their joint enterprise - a rehabilitation centre for fallen women. Drake has been in Manchester rebuilding his career from scratch, and now views Jackson in a far more favourable light: degenerate he may be, but the Yank is still the best pathologist in the business. Reid, on the other hand, has good as disowned his once-friend and confidante, but the crisis is such that he has no choice but to gracelessly make use of his talents. It's largely down to Jackson that the five man armed gang are soon taken, but the pillar of the community who masterminded the operation walks free. We, like Long Susan, know who he is. Reid, too, has a bloody good idea, but proof will be hard to come by ... What a storming series opener! Murder, violence, the Necropolis Railway, and filth. So good to have this back on terrestrial TV.

Not sure how true that is about the cuts, but caught the series 3 opener last night and it all seemed to hold together just fine. I've just checked the listings on Am*z*n, and the first ep had a running time of 1 hr and 6 minutes - but the running times of other episodes vary, the shortest is 1 hr and 3 mins, and the longest is 1hr and 15 mins. It seems the Beeb has cut them all to fit a 1 hour slot in the schedule - www.radiotimes.com/news/2014-07-18/amazon-and-bbc-to-air-different-versions-of-ripper-street-series-threeI didn't notice anything untoward in the first ep, but I do worry what a 15 minute cut might do...

I have had the unedited episodes available for quite some time, but I quit watching in the middle of the third one, I think. I felt the tone had become a little bit too pitch-black and nasty. I may give it another try, though.

Only watched the 2nd ep of Ripper Street 3 on pay-tv. Missed the first, and again the third. This seems to have become very continuity minded, and I am not a fan of the Reid and his daughter thing. Also there could be a little more victoriana for my taste.

I may give it another try, though. I see what you mean about "pitch-black and nasty," but last night's was one of my favourite episodes yet. Lady Fishnet's metamorphosis from likeable bad girl to full-on corrupt, thoroughly unsympathetic, businesswoman is hard to take, and how she abide that loathsome slug of a lawyer is beyond me. Also agree with Andreas that the return of Reid's daughter from Davy Jones' Locker - via a near Elisabeth Fritzl situation in the basement of a curiosity shop - is stretching credulity a little too far, but it's Ripper Street after all, just sit back and "enjoy" the madness. Reid's murder of Horace Buckley, the timid, half-cocked shop proprietor, was especially unpleasant, but consistent with what we've seen of his character. Matthew Macfadyen has always played him as a man on the brink of a psychotic episode, and it's not implausible learning of a second "death" of his daughter would tip him over the edge. Looks like things are going to get a whole lot worse before they get ... better? Incidentally, afterwards I caught MyAnna Buring ('Long Susan') in Brit medical-zombie flick, The Devil's Playground, on the Horror Channel, and disgustingly entertaining it was, too. Anyone else had the pleasure?

Luckily I managed to record that on Tivo while watching American Sniper on DVD so I look forward to watching this disgusting bit of entertainment sometime in the next few days!

A bit of a throwback, really. Makes most of a (presumably) low budget, doesn't pretend to be anything it's not, actors giving it their all, thoroughly despicable bad guys. Not so far removed from earlier Danny Dyer vehicle, The Football Factory (ace soundtrack), except this time he's faced with medical experiment disasters as opposed to rival hooligan firms. I enjoyed it far more than anticipated, but then I'm easily pleased.

Ripper Street 3.5 was a bit disappointing. I would have wished for a stronger solo outing for Mr. Drake, who seems to have mellowed a bit too much. The interesting topic of brewerys - how did the distribution go in JTRs time? - was overwhelmed by the not so interesting brother's tale.

I saw very little of the new Ripper Street series - I missed a couple of episodes and then couldn't get back into it. On the other hand, the new Jekyll & Hyde series on ITV looks very promising (written by Charlie Higson, first episode was yesterday) - I was expecting a fairly straight rehash of the story, but it looks like they are going for a sort of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen thing, with a bit of Penny Dreadful on the side - multiple monsters, and playing up the supernatural rather than the sci-fi aspects. If you missed it I recommend catching up. If you need anymore persuading, it's already been criticised by the Daily Mail for being shown before the watershed - tinyurl.com/nhbkww2
