Hmmmm... compared to the Fawcett cover, it looks like Hammer is actually toning down the sex.

New Hammer novelizations - yes, please! I just ordered Twins of evil. But if Hutson messes the classic, I will... protest!

Also ordered this, but I think this either will be great or a crushing disappointment. That he doesn´t publish a new novel this year is also not a good sign. It is fall - the new Hutson is published. This was like a clockwork for years. Even if most of his novels were not very good any longer, it feels like one is missing something

I hope the best and fear the worst! Hammer novelizations I would like to see: Brides of Dracula Kiss of the Vampire Ditto to Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde And I know Blood of the vampire (1958) is not Hammer film, just Hammer copy written by Jimmy Sangster, but novelization could be interesting.

I saw 'The Quiet Ones' in a near empty cinema on Monday evening - one that was even emptier before the film ended, as one couple clearly decided it wasn't for them. I, on the other hand, thoroughly enjoyed it. (I was also keen to see it as the true event that it's inspired by - the Philip Experiment - was also the loose basis of an old story of mine I'd recently dragged out of the bottom drawer to rework, though thankfully the two approaches are completely different.) I'd say it's more supernatural drama than full-on, out and out horror, but that's something that really worked for me. A few jump scares and only minimal CGI use aside, it was more character and atmosphere based, and reminded me (possibly in part to do with its 1974 setting, complete with Slade on the soundtrack) of 1970s TV fare like 'Dead of Night', 'The Stone Tape' and 'The Mind Beyond'. Very atmospheric, well cast and acted, Jared Harris in particular showing that he would have been right at home in 'classic' Hammer as either an obsessive Van Helsing-style monster hunter or an amoral Victor Frankenstein-type scientist. They should cast him as Quatermass if their proposed series goes ahead. Erin Richards is like a young Joanna Lumley, and Olivia Cooke is pretty intense (as well as intensely pretty) as the subject of Harris' experiments. I'll definitely be grabbing this on DVD or BluRay when it comes out, as I think it'll be getting a few revisits from this viewer.

David Ambrose's SUPERSTITION (1997) is a brilliant novel based on this idea. Everyone should read it. Now.

I've been looking forward to watching this film.

Oh yeah, I've read that - don't remember an awful lot about it now, except that I did enjoy it at the time. Might be due a re-read, if I can find a copy.

They've been talking about it for a while, but the most concrete mention is in this piece, I think; www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=39455

And a re-working of 'The Abominable Snowman', too. Would be nice to see Nigel Kneale's name back in the spotlight - then maybe someone will put out a collection of his short stories that I can afford to buy.

Just ordered a used copy from Amazon for a penny (plus postage). Thanks for the recommendation, looks very interesting.
