Having treated myself on Sunday night to a Boris Karloff marathon, I wondered if the dear old chap had got a thread in the Vault. Apparently not, except indirectly through an anthology or two under his monicker. So I had to start one. to enquire if anyone has any recommendations of films I haven't seen. My Sunday treat was the remastered version of The Ghoul, which was actually rather disappointing because Boris has very little screen time except for a bit of silent staggering about, but made up for it by an early hero role for Anthony Bushell and a lovely, lovely Ernest Thesiger cameo; The Mask of Fu Manchu, completely non-pc and unrepentantly sadistic; and The Mummy, my favourite rampaging Egyptian bar none. Obviously I've done the Universal stuff, and the Roger Corman movies, and The Old Dark House, and even Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome, but I'm always happy to come across more. Any ideas?

Surely you have seen Targets and The Body Snatcher?
Personably I have a soft spot for Curse of the crimson altar, with Sir Lee, but which of course is kind of a sad farewell as it isn´t very good.

One of my favourite Karloff movies is The Sorcerers, directed by Mike Reeves and inspired by a story idea by John Burke. A brilliant conception, superbly acted by Karloff in one of his best performances.

In the Val Lewton RKO series, there are Isle of the Dead and Bedlam, both well worth a look imo. There are two movies he made with Vincent Price and Basil Rathbone, Tower of London and Comedy of Terrors, both completely different in their tone, and not often shown, but very enjoyable.

Karloff's last three (four?) films were shot in Mexico. I've only seen The Camera of Terror, which is a bit rubbish really. Not seen the others; (Isle of the Snake People and The Fear Chamber? The titles in translation seem to vary).
Didn't he sometimes also act in, as well as host, the US TV series Thriller? I think so.

I'd suggest The Black Room ( 1935). Karloff plays twin brothers , one good , one evil - it's a great period murder mystery piece. I also endorse The Sorcerers though it's less a Karloff flick than Ian Ogilvey's ( which hums with groovy murderous vibe).

I've seen Isle of the Snake People but no-one else probably should. The Sorcerors is a great little film and I always thought it could be remade nicely - old people living vicariously through the young with horrific consequences could work equally well now. At the moment I'm waiting for the Boris Karloff Thriller box set to come down in price

Apparently it is.

The series THE VEIL really opened my eyes to Karloff's broad repertoire of acting skills. Great show and he's great in every episode.

He also has fun camping it up in drag as "Mother Muffin" in an episode of The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.We just watched The Sorcerors and enjoyed it immensely. Then some bloke named Johnny Mains rang and we broke a crystal wine goblet getting to the phone. Coincidence? Or was it some looney old lady messing with us?

You broke a crystal goblet? There was me thinking you both drank from slender flutes whittled from the bones convicted and hanged cattle rustlers...

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks: some of them I'd already seen, but you reminded me of some I'd forgotten, and there were some new ones. So my next Boris-a-thon will be The Sorcerers, The Black Room (two Borises for the price of one, can it get any better?), and Isle of the Dead. Then there'll be a totally politically incorrect bash with Mr Wong, since I just picked up a triple set of dvds in a pound shop.
