It's great fun, andy, in particular The Old Bride's Column (Mrs. Smith grasses up her husband) and the stories.
Guy N. Smith - The Howling On The Moors:
"It was the body of a man, and from the way he was lying, in a twisted grotesque heap, there could be no doubt he was dead" Endearingly ridiculous pre-Crabs psychic sleuth nonsense featuring two of Scotland Yard's finest, crime-buster Raymond Odell and his young assistant, Tommy Bourne. Evidently things are a little slack in London as DI Richmond assigns them to the Sussex coast to investigate reports of a 'ghostly apparition' of a wolf which has terrified the locals. As you've guessed, the spectral wolf is just a smokescreen for a heroin smuggling operation masterminded by Marty Wiseman (that's him pretending to be a corpse in the line quoted above). It's just a shame that Guy didn't make more of Roker, the red-bearded giant of a pub landlord at the Old Mariner, but he only gets three paragraphs before one of Wiseman's cronies shoots him dead. GNS has a real flair for hostile pub scenes.
Brooke Vaughn - Just Jack: Maine. Taking advantage of the Civil War, drifter Jack has just burgled Blue Raven Farm. Holed up in a desolate barn, Jack is at first too busy sorting through his loot to notice twelve year old Lizzie Wilkins watching him. But when he turns to find the little girl scrutinising him at work, Jack has no option but to kill her, lopping her head near clean off her shoulders with a handy scythe. But such is the evil influence of the Barn that Lizzie refuses to lie down. She chases her murderer through the swamp where her father Elias is waiting to deliver grim justice.
Of the other stories, Stuart Neild's The Smoking Assassin is a first hand testimony from one of Death's demonic acquaintances and nine-year-old Stephen Valiance's The Reptile Room is very short, direct account of Andy's experience with a killer snake. Love the one-word dialogue!

Adrian Chamberlin - WHC Texas write-up Gary Smith - Prologue For Stella X Old Bride's Column Writers Forum Questions & Answers Competition In MemoryShame on me, but, such is my impatience with pdf's, if I don't get around to them within a day or two, chances are, I'll forget they even even exists. Such has been the case with the two previous issues of Graveyard Rendezvous, so once I'm done with #39 (a 101st birthday present from Guy & Ceri at Black Books: thank you both!) will try put that right. The summer special is typical of the post-relaunch issues with plenty input from Guy offset by fan fiction, news, and reviews of the Crabmeister's prodigious output old and new. M.R. James had Stories I Have Tried To Write but the indefatigable Mr. Smith goes him one better with detailed synopsis' of entire novels, including the rather wonderful sounding Sabat 5: The Witch Of Warsaw (GR #37). For this reader, the highlight of the entire issue occurs in the Writers Forum, when Guy tackles the subject of eroticism. "Subtle sex, innuendoes, are always more effective than crudeness" suggests the author of The Sucking Pit. Maria Wyley - A Sacred Month: Knighton, June 1997. The corpse of local beauty Mary Shaftsbury is found dumped in Kinsley Wood, the killer having carved a Triquatra into her chest. Despite the best efforts of Inspector Riley, Mary's is the first of six similar murders in the lead up to the Summer Solstice. Yaiza Marrero-Shepherd - Clowns: Faye is terrified of toy clowns her mum picked up at a jumble sale, especially when the little ceramic-headed bastards recite doggerel detailing what they're going to do with her and "it will really hurt." It does, too! Pop culture reference: Bliss! magazine. Mark Hobson - The Curse Of Modern Britain: Mervyn Higginson is having problems with vandalism. No sooner has he painted over the obscenities daubed across his garage wall than a hoodie hoodlum of creative bent defaces anew it with a strikingly horrible mural of a fanged demon. Job done, the graffiti artist casually strolls away pursued by Mervyn's meat-tenderiser which strikes him on the back of the head. The vandal turns. Mervyn can't quite catch his face the glaring eyes are enough to damn near give him a coronary. Comes the night and, with the garage wall torn apart in a shower of bricks, suddenly a few scrawled expletives don't seem such a big deal after all. more to follow ...

William Meikle - At The Beach: Donald Brown's afternoon reading by the sea is interrupted by Cameron, an amiable WWII veteran with a bottle of whiskey and a mindful of pained memories. While he was away fighting in France, his wife-to-be and baby daughter were killed in an air raid. So who is this girl approaching across the sand and how comes she calls him 'Dad'? A gentle ghost story in a GNS 'zine conquers by surprise!
Guy N Smith - The Waiting Game: GNS, or somebody very like him, is approached by the mysterious Reuben Lycett to transform his jumbled manuscript into a novel. The ghost writer realises he's working on the most incendiary work of non-fiction in history when a media baron and his co-conspirators in Government put a hit-man on his case.
Gary Smith - Prologue For Stella X : Grim account of the life in the aftermath following a nuclear strike. Jebb is one of few survivors gathered at the soup kitchen beside the town hall waiting to learn if his wife is among the several confirmed dead.
A mention to for In Memory, a touching tribute to the late Donks as featured on the cover of Cornharrow - A Tale Of Two Donkeys

The old Brides Column Questions and Answers Merchandise"What is that fairy doing on the floor, you know I hate it. It looks like a Spice Girl on crack. Bloody ugly thing, it looks like it's scowling at me..." Steven Savile & Steve Lockley - Snowbound: Christmas Eve. Husband promised Tracy "I'll get home if it kills me" so where is he? She turns on the TV to learn of a multiple pile-up on the motorway. Meanwhile outside on the farm, a little girl runs screaming from a marauding snowman .... Ryan Spier - Final Resting Place: An aged eccentric, allegedly researching a book on superstition, offers £5,000 to someone willing to spend a night in a coffin. Cliff volunteers, has the box delivered to his home. "it's quite a device, fitted with a digital camera so you can't cheat." The Christmas fairy waits until Cliff has climbed in and shut the lid before setting about her Devil's work. Guy N . Smith - Death In The Snow: Kindly landowner Geoff Sanderson has fixed it for office worker Louise to go deer-stalking in the woods on Christmas Eve. Traditional ghost story, remarkably restrained by Mr. Smith's standards. Ian Woodhead - Christmas Misery: Trevor Braxton constructs an igloo in the garden to take his mind off despised ex-girlfriend, Shirley Briggs. A pair of teenage rapists find it ideal for their purpose. Joan De La Haye - Twelve Days Of Grandpa's Ghost: Twenty years dead, Grandpa's ghost gives his non-grieving relatives (and pets) a ghastly Christmas surprise. Loved it! Guy N. The Ones That Got Away – Sabat 5: The Witch of Warsaw: Thirteen chapter project outline for a proposed fifth Mark Sabat novel. Following the collapse of the Soviet Bloc, the ousted Communist regime unleash Satanic forces in a bid to overthrow democracy.
