Pete Steele (Petrus T. Ratajczyk) (January 4, 1962 – April 14, 2010) Peter Steele, the Horror of Red Hook, in the video for the atypically poppy My Girlfriend's Girlfriend With every victim I pray for my own death And as much as I love the night I curse the moon's eerie glow This bloodlust that drags me to forever The toxic rays of dawn that condemn me to limbo I am forced to dwell in grey Autumnal twilight I am suspended in dusk Darlene Daniels' TON tribute issue of Nocturnal Esctasy, 1995 Delayed posting this hoping it was another hoax, but sadly it seems that Peter Steele, bassist, vocalist and driving force behind Carnivore and Type O Negative, died of heart failure on April 14th 2010. TON's first three albums fro Roadrunner - Slow, Deep And Hard, the mock-'live' Origins Of The Feces and the Goth-Metal classic Bloody Kisses - were an absolutely massive influence on Chrissie and me during our VAT fanzine period and we even nicked the title from one of their saddest songs for our disastrous collaboration with a showbiz psy*h*c *nves*igat*r. Doom-laden doesn't begin to do justice to Steele's lyrics - even Pete Hammill never managed to come up with "One-Two-Three-Four I don't wanna live no more" ( Gravitational Constant, but try the reworked version Are You Afraid/ Gravity on .... Feces for maximum morbidity) - but there is a macabre wit evident in his work and he was capable of writing songs of great power and beauty ( Bloody Kisses, Suspended In Dusk, Frozen, Everyone I Love Is Dead, the terrifying Unsuccessfully Coping ..., seasonal suicide offering Red Water ......). RIP, Peter Bloody kisses
