A request from our good friend Derek at Wordsworth editions I wonder if I can enlist the help of you and 'The Vault' with a query on our upcoming Oliver Onions collection.
We wanted to make it a complete collection of his short ghost stories, but I have lost contact with the elderly relative that gave us permission to publish them, so I'm having to piece them together from various collections.
We've done pretty well, but the two I can't find copies of are:
The Master of the House Tragic Casements
Does anyone out there have copies? Photocopies would be fine, and we'd reimburse expenses, and probably chuck in an Amazon voucher too!
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers,
Derek

DerekATwordsworth-editions.com*replace AT with @ (anti-spam measure)* if the worst comes to the worst, i have 'Master Of The House' in Peter Haining's Werewolf: Horror Stories Of The Man-Beast (Severn House, 1987), and will attempt a scan next week, but my one concern is that Mr. Haining may have abridged it (he had plenty of previous!). Master ..., and the 'lost' story Tragic Casements, were both included in the second printing of The Collected Ghost Stories of Oliver Onions, (Tartarus Press, 2000) but the first omits Tragic Casements. Sadly, i've never seen a copy.

blimey, that was swift! well done Jonathan.
it strikes me that if anyone has both Haining's Werewolf and the Tartarus edition of Onions Collected Ghost Stories among their collection, they could well be aware of a board like this, so what we need now is for that person to tell us if there are any discrepancies between the Haining & Tartarus versions of Master Of The House?

I have "Master" in the old Dover collected and could photocopy it.
I'm pretty sure it didn't make either Tartarus edition (it is the seciond that I have).
Tartarus also didn't include the "Two trifles" from Lady Cynthia Asquith's Ghost Stories, but they are not really of much interest in themselves.

.... and well done, chris. not bad going in less than 24 hours. i've emailed Derek and given him a direct link to this thread; i'll send him a copy of the Werewolf version of Master Of The House too (i don't know what made me think it was in the Tartarus edition! ), if for no other reason than to find out whether or not Mr. Haining was up to his old mischief . good point about the Two Trifles. they never impressed me either, but if it's supposed to be a complete ghost stories you really should include them.
