I think I'm going to go and post a couple of polls ... ... or maybe I should have said I'll have to go and pop a couple of pills!

Oh, and I've pimped Pantechnicon here just as much as Troo, but if you look back to my intro message when I first joined I seem to remember asking if it was OK to do so and being told it was fine? And quite recently I referred on a thread to my Panties interview with Peter Duffell but didn't put a link 'cos I didn't want it to look like I was plugging it - but then Dem told me to! So, like I said - there are mixed messages here. I'm confused!

So, like I said - there are mixed messages here. I'm confused! I agree. I've tried to put any pimping stuff (Cone Zero and my own work) on the private Filthy Workshop - meanwhile, I think the Small Press Ark is important to the Vault of Evil ethos. That's why I started it off here. It's had over 8000 views so far. Having said all that - this is a great site. And will remain a great site, I'm sure. I love old horror and I love high literature. I love classical music and I love sixties pop. It's sometimes difficult to differentiate between cultures as only yesterday I was indicating on another thread. des

I'll say one thing. Even when we are discussing contentious issues like this, unlike most other boards I have ever visited, there is a surprising absence of anything approaching rancour.
What a civilised lot we are!
David
PS Hope I haven't spoken too soon (which wouldn't be the first time, I might add!)

I post my stuff on the modern section on one thread which people can choose to look at or not. I'm sure that people mostly look at the many other sections anyway.
As Caroline said 'I saw it as a Vault which celebrated ALL horror' ....'Never mind "saving the Vault".... I personally feel you'll destroy it, Dem, if you ban new stuff! It definitely wouldn't be of so much interest to me without its wide coverage.' Well said Caroline.
If I don't post on the other threads then I'm sorry...I can't fulfil all my obligations to my husband and 10 year old daughter and write the novel I'm working so hard on.. I thought that I was supporting the board by coming here....clearly not..

Thank you Des!
I've done everything I can since my publisher nearly died to sell this book not to mention the three bereavements I've written it through. I'm proud of it.

Rar! Ban this sick filth! I confess I've not been around much of late. Those who know me know I was made redundant without notice six weeks ago, and have been fighting since then with the demise of Humdrumming, trying to wrap that as neatly as possible while attempting to kick-start a freelance writing career, edit a book, write a novel, and all the other junk one suddenly finds one's time consumed by when unemployed. I would contest the assertion that all I've done here is pimp stuff, though. Yes I've mentioned Pantechnicon or Hub, but I've published Vaulters too. Surely that's good for all of us? And I can guarantee that more of my posts here about cock, book covers, and disgusting noises than have been about those vile, free, no-obligation-to-read ezines which I occasionally edit. I'm not sure that I'm somehow less valuable a member than other Vault members purely because I happen to be someone with very little spare time right now. What you might want to consider doing, Dem, is having a board down the bottom that's purely for pimping. Any pimp posts not in it can either be moved or just deleted as you see fit, and readers who are sick of the pimping can just avoid that board altogether. That's how I tend to organise message boards which attract pimping, and it seems to work quite reasonably

At last- someone said it! Thank you Dem and Pulp Hack.
I check the board pretty much every day and ask for the last 30 posts. Very rarely do I see anything worth reading. FM's recent Apache posting was like an oasis in the middle of the desert. I've slowly seen the board turn from the most entertaining and informative on the web, to a stream of bland pleasantries, hollow back-slapping and shameless self-promotion.
I'm not interested in people's birthdays. I'm not interested in someone's crappy modern fanzine. I'm not interested in 15 different responses to whether someone's going to a launch. I log onto here to learn and share about my passion- vintage horror!
I recently tried to post something a bit more substantial in the form of an article on Magazine of Horror. 18 months back it would have created a fair bit of discussion amongst the board with interesting points and opinions coming out, as well as corrections and additional info. Not this time.
Did anyone see it? I doubt it because it disappeared out of the 30 most recent posts in the blink of an eye as it was replaced with a load of blather which added no value to the board.
Mission statement of the board- the Vault Of Evil is where we discuss and share our passion and knowledge for horror culture pre-1979.
If you don't like vintage pulp horror then this is not the board for you. Sorry. What happens if someone comes in and says I'm into historical romance novels, please feature them or I won't like the blog? You tell them to find another blog!
This site has been fantastically supportive of my magazine The Paperback Fanatic and it wouldn't have launched without the passionate support of so many of the board. How did I obtain this support? Typically I sent copies of the mag to key members of the board, they decided whether they liked it and posted comments on this board. Rog, Kev, Andy, Steve, Charles, Brad, FM and Ade have all contributed in the way of alterations, suggestions and moral support.
I think that's the way forward- want your product promoted? Well privately e-mail Dem and ask for his address so you can post it to him. If he likes it he plugs it. If he don't, he don't.

I never look at the last 30 posts. I just go straight in and look down the board - that way I see everything.

the Vault Of Evil is where we discuss and share our passion and knowledge for horror culture pre-1979. If that had been drawn to my attention earlier, I'd never have started the Small Press Ark - which probably shows things more basically, fanatically pulpish vis a vis Horror than any Panther, Nel, Corgi (of the 60s and 70s) which I also love, btw. des
