Pan (1962) 'Bloody Teds...'
There were four of them in the dock at the Old Bailey - Stan, Ginger, Barney, Billy...
Were they thugs whose sharp suits and winklepickers were the uniform of violence...whose nights out had been one long rampage of vandalism, culminating in robbery and murder?
Or were they just youngsters dressed up for a night on the town, whose natural high spirits had earned them the inevitable and damning label of 'bloody teds?'
Barbed with disturbing realsim...
Charged with suspense...

John Burke - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Pan, 1968) A real slimline effort. Burke gets the job done in 100 pages and four of them are are a photo insert. Piranha is 'Salems Lot by comparison. Haven't read it, not seen the film - give me a break. It's a bloody musical! - but from what i understand, it's a tragedy involving some likable fellow named the Childcatcher who fails to slaughter a family of rich do-gooders on account of their having a magic flying car.

Pan (1967) Why, his family wondered, wasn't Michael Tremayne more like his 'sensible' elder brother David? They couldn't know, of course, that when Michael got into trouble it was because David was pulling the strings.
Truth is they were both reckless, and in their restlessness wanted to do something really big. Like steal the Crown Jewels from the Tower, for instance...
No, it isn't impossible. Yes, they could, and it did, evolve a plan...

Why should the same man shop seven drug couriers, yet ask for nothing in return? Detective Seargents Miller and Collis (on the Fourth Floor at Scotland Yard) have the job of finsing out. Both of them desperately need a result. Collis is decidedly not in his governor's good books, and Miller, who has sacrificed his private life to his work, needs to know that it has all been worthwhile.
What the two find is a plan of such audacity as to defy belief - but they are there to see it unfold.
