I know that Dem wanted to see it happen, and I can now announce that it will - a paperback version of BACK FROM THE DEAD will be published next Halloween by Spectral Press. I'll be dumping the Van Thal biography, adding two new essays, changing all the classic reprints and possibly adding two new stories to the mix. AND if it's possible, I'll be transcribing the complete interview of the Pan Book of Horror Stories panel that I hosted at the World Fantasy Convention in 2010. BFTD was my first book, it wasn't perfect, but at least this gives me a chance to go under the bonnet and tinker with it. And it will be dedicated to Basil Copper, John Burke and Francis King who have all died since the book came out. Admittedly, I know sod all about how the publishing world works, but it still seems to me that Pan scored a monumental own goal in reissuing The Pan Book of Horror Stories and not Back From The Dead. Anyone who wanted the first Pan book could find original copies easily enough, but Back From The Dead had only been available in a very limited edition of 100 (?), so far more likelihood of it shifting a few in paperback. Very well done to Spectral Press for doing what Pan probably should have.

Yes, the publishing world IS a little crazy at times...Funnily enough, Pan 1 exceeded market expectations and sold really, really well - and that was for a 50 yr old reprint. All I can say is that in regards to Pan Horror coming back, things are looking better than it did even a year ago, but there's still a long, long way to go. Dem, the original run was 150.

Why is The Little Girl Eater” not in the Kindle edition currently on Amazon?

The paperback and kindle are different to the hardback because I wanted to make the hardback more special for those who bought it - so I excised several stories and replaced them with others.

If this review for BACK FROM THE DEAD is anything to go by 'The Clinic' still works wonders...
