The Last Superbowl - Robin Moore/David Harper Manor Books Inc. 1976/1980. The infamous and much worshipped trash tome EAT THEM ALIVE first hit the Manhatten streets from Manor Books Inc. Little seems to be known about them but there's a grindhouse feel to there library ( what we know about it). THE LAST SUPERBOWL is credited to two writers - Robin Green who wrote THE FRENCH CONNECTION , THE GREEN BERETS ( A Vietnam book) and THE FIFTH ESTATE ( a Mafia thriller). David Harper however is a pseud for one of America's most successful writers ( so the book tells me).Sounds almost a proper book but that cover's a doozy... As a newsman and a former football player, I consider The Last Superbowl dynamite. This kind of violence , in fact or exposed in fiction , may indeed bring about a "last superbowl".

David Harper however is a pseud for one of America's most successful writers ( so the book tells me) David Harper was a pseudonym used by thriller writer Edwin Corley apparently. Robin Moore's books were often co-written with somebody else. If I get chance tomorrow I'll post a few covers and blurbs from some other Manor books.

Is this the same David Harper who wrote The Hanged Men, published by Hamlyn?

Edwin Corley wrote The Hanged Men, writing as David Harper (first published by Dodd, Mead & Co., New York, 1976) though I can't be sure he's also the same David Harper who wrote the book Ade's posted about above. Seems likely to me though as he was a fairly successful writer (and one-time fire-eater according to his bio) in his day - first novel was a bestseller, had several books made into films, and so forth. Died in 1981.

Thanks for the info, Steve, sounds very much a Vault type character. I started on The Hanged Men a while back, just a few chapters to get the idea & seems good so far. Only stopped due to loose pages, as I want to get them stuck back properly before carrying on.
