The board is way bloated as it is, but i've been making noises about adding a 'Rest of the World' section for a while now and between you and Andy Decker who has treated us to some many German gems, you've decided me. If i get the chance it will be appearing next section down from 'American horror anthologies and vintage pulp magazines' later on today. It .... uh .... might be a little on the small side to begin with. Just this post, in fact ....
The covers are ace, James (hope you don't mind, but i took the liberty off centering them) and the contents don't look bad either. Have you the dates for the individual collections?

Sounds great, and thanks for sorting out the images! Still having teething pains, I'm afraid.

Sorry, the date of these three is 1962. There are six in that series I'll sort out the remaining three when I dig them up.

Gelie Duncan - Living Witchcraft (Horwitz, 1970). Cheating, i know, as it's not an anthology, it's not even fiction, and the blurb suggests a sober approach to the subject (although if the Brit equivalents are anything to go by, that's likely a red herring). Can't argue with the it-could-only-be-1968-70 cover though.

I'm curious - "The Curse of Dracula" by Bram Stoker? What's that? Is it an exerpt from the novel?

Yes, it's the first four chapters - Jonathon Harker's diary. And "Blood and Roses" is Carmilla, named after the film.

Another few Horwitz covers. The 2nd isn't horror, but 1 of a series of similar exploitation novels from the eary '60s.

Horwitz also had a Gothic Library. This one was first published in the US in 1965 and reprinted by Horwitz in 1966, Most of the Gothic Library titles were written by "Catherine Farr", a psuedonym of the Aussie writer Richard Wilkes-Hunter (though the first was written by Lee Pattinson). I'll try and get a few of them up later on.

This is interesting. In some bibliographies australian gothics are credited to a "Caroline Farr" which is said to be a early pseudonym of Alan Yates aka Carter Brown. So there are two Farr´s?

My error - the name is Caroline Farr, which is a psuedonym used most often by Richard Wilkes-Hunter, but also others - not Alan Yates as far as I know.
The Horwitz Gothic Library consists ofthe following. The first Farr is by Lee Pattinson, and the rest by W-H.
Caroline Farr, The Intruder (1966) Caroline Farr, Villa of Shadows (1966) Jane Gordon, Season of evil (1966) Clara Coleman, Nightmare in July (1966) Caroline Farr, Web of Horror (1966) Wilma Winthrop, Tryst With Terror (1966) Caroline Farr, Mansion of Evil (1966) Caroline Farr, The House of Tombs (1966) Fiona Murray, Gold Coast Affair (1967) Jane Gordon, Mistress of Mount Fair (1967) Caroline Farr, Witch's Hammer (1967) Caroline Farr, The Possessed (1973) Caroline Farr, Castle of Terror (1975) Caroline Farr, Dark Citadel (1976) Caroline Farr, Towers of Fear (1977) Caroline Farr, The Scream in the Storm (1977) Caroline Farr, Granite Folly (1977)
Other Farr novels were published by Signet and New American Library, most writtem by W-H.

'Blood and Roses' by J. Sheridan le Fanu; ' The Devil of the March' by H. B. Marriott-Watson [sic]; 'The Unquiet Grave' by F. M. Mayor; 'The Tapestied Chambeer' by Sir Walter Scott; 'The Phantom Coach' by Amelia B. Edwards; 'The Judge's House' by Bram Stoker. A few weeks ago, had never heard of Horwitz or Charles Higham and this morning I found a 2nd edition of Spinetingling Tales (1965: same cover & contents) ten minutes walk from where I live. what are the chances! Inside there's a note: "In the same series ... Weird Stories and Tales Of Terror" which I don't think we'd had yet?
