Jonathan May - Confessions From The Olympics (Sphere, May 1980)
JONNY PULLS OUT THE BIG ONE FOR THE 1980 SEX OLYMPICS!
It's up, up and away for our Jonny as he gets into practice for the sex Olympics in Moscow. Not that he's in need of much (practice that is) ... As England's 'great white hope' Jonny springs eternal as he plunges into the ballroom (!) to meet his fellow sexathletes. There's the sado-masochism section which is lashings of fun with the aid of the lovely Raelene Cleevidge (!) ... and the bondage event where Jonny proves he won't get knotted for anyone... and the Sexathon, the main event where the Moscow mates meet (note the 'e' there) their match... one thing's for sure you can rely on Jonny to keep his end up whatever the sport!
I got so many books and magazines on the go right now and na'ry a "review" in sight, so i'm hoping a lavish helping of smut will re-energise me. One chapter in and i'm already wondering if perseverance alone will qualify me for the masochist event as Jonny's wedding to Liz is postponed due to a passionate grapple between Miss Jorgan and Mr. Jorgan in the organ loft. Mr. 'May' is keeping the pop culture references coming thick and fast. Alice Cooper, Osvaldo Ardiles, disgruntled Chelsea supporters and "The vicar is a doddering old man who'd make Young Mr Grace look like the Six Million Dollar Man."
From the first, I set myself against "literature"; the story was the thing, and no amount of style could persuade me to select a story that lacked genuine, unadulterated horror. For those who wanted something high-brow there was plenty. - Christine Campbell Thomson
