Paging Glampunk! To celebrate the reformation of Mott The 'Oople, the current issue of Mojo magazine has a cover cd of various tunes from the early 1970s - the kind of yobbo rows that slipped out in between prog pomp and the angry young sputum projectors (ie a sort of glam/pub rock mish mash.)
T. Rex (Hi Steve) Buick Mackane - a rougher racket than the chart hits. Motorhead - White Line Fever - an early incarnation of the ultimate HM power trio does the business Larry Wallis - Police Car - the Pulphack classic! Mott The Hoople - Thunderbuck Ram. Can't see what all the fuss is about with this lot. Twink And The Fairies - Do It '77 - Bet Simon Clark's got the original EP. The Gorillas - She's My Gal. FM fave Jesse Hector roars out more low fi rock 'n' roll. I never saw this lot (even before they dropped the Hammersmith) but I did see JH supporting at the Marquee with The Sound. A truly nutcase performance (especially considering his age and girth at the time). How can you not love a man that was in a band called Crushed Butler? Slade - How Does It Feel. Culled from Dem fave Flame, as the T.Rex track is rougher than normal, so this is softer. Nods croons rather than bellows, and its poignancy will have Glampunk crying in his Worthington E. Roy Wood - Wake Up. Oh dear. Pseudo folk frippery with Roy walking through a paddling pool. I expected better from the mainstay of Brum Psych popsters The Move and Glam superstars Wizzard. Be-Bop Deluxe - Axe Victim. Bill Nelson's boys aim for a Bowie/Roxy sound and don't quite hit the heights. Jook - Aggravation Place. Genius! The Rubettes morph into The Cockney Rejects with a glam stomping stormer - the soundtrack to Mark 'Aggro' Samuels new found terrace mastery. Bearded Lady feat. Johnny Warman - Rockstar. A lot better than I thought it would be. The Sensational Alex Harvey Band- Midnight Moses. I don't think I need sing the praises of this - miles better than the Bollock Brothers cover (there's a surprise). The Count Bishops - I Need You - More FM tomfoolery - I never saw this lot either but did catch Mike Spenser filling in for an absent Bill Hurley at an Inmates gig. And they did Good Guys. British Lions - One More Chance To Run - aggressive rock from the non-famous ones out of Mott. Max Wall - England's Glory - time to go! Look out for this (almost) marvellous album at your local chariddy shop.
