I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and figure that he did that on purpose to be ironic! And to be honest I wrote the first few posts without the benefit of any spell checking. Which wasn't wasn't very wise since my spelling is embarrassingly poor. Take care. Doug I used to be good at spelling but since the invasion of spellcheckers and also my long years as a foreign exile I've lost the plot. Two real problems now are 'its' or 'it's' and 'your' or 'you're'. I know the rules but the part of my brain that used to sort it out is off duty. I've also noticed many more typos and gross mistakes in books that are almost all to do with spellcheckers and last minute word doc adjustments which didn't occur in type written manuscripts. A good thing could come out of this - I love your blog Doug because its honest, fun and informative - full of passion. The spelling doesn't matter a toss really because we understand it - Shakespearean spelling is back and is the only defense (defence?) against spellcheckers. Word incidentally has reintroduced the comma and things like 'that which' instead of 'of' at the end of sentences. Grammatical 'errors' and loose grammar that were dismissed as acceptable common usage in the 1940's. Thanks for the compliments Craig. And as far as exile is concerned, living all these years in Nuremberg hasn't exactly helped my English any either. I'm in the local Arstonomical Society and we run the Observatory for the city. So on week-ends I give observing sessions and during the week (nights) I give lectures to school kids and civic groups. Anyways every once in a while I'm called upon to lecture in English and it's a nightmare since the little script that runs in my head is all in German. So some times every second sentence starts out with "uhh" as I think to myself "How in the hell do I say that in English?". A few weeks ago we had a group of kids from an "English Speaking School" and one of the moms, a lady from New Zealand, complimented me on my English. She found my American accent a little off putting though and asked me where I picked it up! And speaking of Word, I noticed that it'll make auto-corrections in a way that I swear I never learned. Take care. Doug

I'm in the local Arstonomical Society OK, given the spellcheck theme I just had to point this one out. Insert joke about Uranus here. ;D Seriously, however, Doug, I love the blog, and it's always good to hear from you here!

Sadly the Uranus joke doesn't work over here though. They pronounce it.. ure (like in sure)-ahh-noose. :-( And here I am 2 years ago at the Russian Cultural Center they have here in town. I gave a series of 3 lectures for their week honoring Gagarins 50th. www.nordbayern.de/nuernberger-nachrichten/nuernberger-stadtanzeiger/blick-auf-den-mann-im-mond-1.1149056Doug

I know the rules but the part of my brain that used to sort it out is off duty. I always have the impression I make it up as I go along. I should use the spellcheck of the board much more often. I don't want to know how I mangle this for me foreign language. I never learned English grammar.

"Barking Spiders" come from Uranus! I've been over here so long that it's Ohio to me. Doug
