Rivals of Dracula and Frankenstein - definite yes. Do you think he might have also done the cover for Rivals of King Kong? Would post a picture of Dracula, can't find the book..... Here are scans of some of the Lovecraft paintings he did - sans titles...

Not sure about Rivals Of King Kong. For all I know, it might well be him, but the style is v. different from anything we've seen on this thread so far.

Someone should write a novel about a killer who recreates the covers of horror anthos...with real bodies.

Thanks Mr. Fanatic. I think you once speculated that the striking covers for the 1974 Panther editions of Mind At Bay and Mind In Chains may also have been his work, and that tortured face on the .... Chains cover in particular looks very Holmes-ish? Anyway, will whack up scans of some of those you've listed later on.

Talking to Holmes last night about the Mind in Chains cover and Mind at Bay...He says he is responsible for the first, but not the latter and when I told him that his name is on both books as artist, he said he was definately not responsible for it....

Wonder who was responsible for them, as they're both very good. The terrified face of the guy in the cell for Mind In Chains certainly looks Holmes-ish. Here's a pair of Ghouls.

Is this a John Holmes or an imitation of his style?, I've checked the book, but the artist isn't credited.

Yeah - another John Holmes one. I'm seeing him tomorrow (8th) and may frighten him with the amount of books I'm taking up to him to get signed....
Will post pictures etc. when I come back!

John Holmes apologises to all - he IS responsible for Mind at Bay -he couldn't remember doing the painting, but then he found it behind a huge stack of other work! Anyway - the interview is up - after a feverish transcription that took me into the wee hours to do, but is the best interview I've ever done. I hope you all enjoy!! www.allthingshorror.co.uk/#/johnholmes/4533103998Oh and the website has had a wee facelift....

He gave me three paintings Peter Hainings The Evil People and The Midnight People which you can see him with in the interview and The 16th Fontana Book of Great Horror Stories - (Monkey Judge). It capped off to what had been an amazing day already, it was beyond privelege to spend time with this great man. He even gave my wife a painting called Torture that appeared in a magazine back in the 70's. Amazing, amazing guy.
