Of the ones I've read Swampy, I'd thoroughly recommend DeathBell, Entombed and The Festering. Bloodshow is OK. Satan's Snowdrop didn't impress me much. The others I've yet to track down.

Thanks Franklin. I definitely want to track down Deathbell and Satan's Snowdrop after reading about them on different sites. Just out of interest, why didn't you care for Snowdrop?
Briefly, what are the plotlines for Bloodshow and The Festering?

As far as I remember (and my memory's vague at the best of times) Snowdrop was a lot of Nazi torture stuff which I didn't care for. Mind you, any GNS is worth reading at least once. I might read it again and love it!
Bloodshow is to do with a castle being a kind of holiday hotel with waxwork horror exhibits that sort of come to life.
The Festering is just a horrible disease that covers people in revolting bursting boils - there's a prologue to do with a witchfinder.
I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but it's been so long since I read these. And, wouldn't you know it, I'd really like to read Bloodshow and The Festering again! (Both have top covers too, especially The Festering).

That is precisely why I am attracted to Snowdrop, although I can understand some peoples aversion or disinterest in that kind of stuff. Bloodshow and The Festering sound pretty good, and you're spot-on about the cover art. Cheers mate

Can some of you kindly give your opinions and views on any of the following: Bloodshow Deathbell Entombed Fiend Satan's Snowdrop The Camp The Festering The Lurkers Cheers all. Bloodshow: not one of Guy's best, but still pretty readable. Nice location, though the plot leaves quite a lot to be desired. Deathbell: outstanding novel, IMHO. GNS at his peak. Genuine sinister air, gripping story from start to finish. Entombed: another strong showing. Evil lurks in a Welsh former slate mine which has become a tourist attraction. Good portrayal of the former priest who loses his faith during an exorcism and fights to regain it during this novel. Fiend: The longest GNS novel, and impeccably researched. A gripping account of life behind the iron curtain, against a backdrop of political corruption and mind numbing evil as the Russian leader is resurrected by a black magician and proceeds to wreak havoc. Satan's Snowdrop: my memory of this one is pretty hazy - it's years since I read it. Something to do with Nazis and a house which is moved in its entirety to the States. Wasn't very impressed with this novel, as I recall. The Camp: bit far fetched, even by GNS standards. A holiday camp becomes the site of bizarre mind control experiments. Worth reading but not among Guy's best work. The Festering: run of the mill nature fighting back yarn. Decent enough novel but a bit too similar to others in the GNS canon for my liking. The Lurkers: great story, compulsive reading from start to finish. Excellent portrayal of alienation in an isolated community where they don't take kindly to outsiders. It seems that terrible evil is afoot - but things aren't always what they seem. Highly recommended.

I'll endorse this too. Of course I'd also recommend BATS OUT OF HELL , THE SLIME BEAST and THE SUCKING PIT as essential GNS reads. Then there are the CRABS books...

I have Bats Out of Hell crabby, it wasn't bad, I liked it but its nowhere near my favourite GNS. Actually, that could be said for all his "nature-running-amok" stories - I just generally prefer his other stuff. I do have to track down The Slime Beast and The Sucking Pit though - as I understand these two early novels are essential.

The first werewolf novel (Werewolf By Moonlight) is also a great pulp classic, but is extremely rare now as it's never been reprinted.

Manitou Doll Locusts Deathbell The Sucking Pit The Black Fedora The Lurkers The Slime Beast (for its pulpy magic) Fiend Entombed Wolfcurse

Guess I'm the only big BOOH fan here - hang on Dem might of liked it. Reputedly it was written as Nel's answer to Cruz' NIGHTWING - which was imminent for the shelves when Guy Smith was commissioned. Personally I think that his knowledge of nature is unsurpassed in the annals of pulp which is why when things go amok - he's on sure ground. Even when he's writing imaginary monsters - usually in the background a buzzard is hovering or a vixen calling - it's part of the GNS scenery that give his books personality.

I really enjoy these as faves and ones I usually share. Of course, I've lost and replaced a few, I guess those were new Smith fans that couldn't part with my books Thirst Deathbell Crabs, Crabs...and Crabs. Cannibals (it must be my love of The Hills Have Eyes and the Jack Ketchum Off Season/Offspring books) Slime Beast and I would highly recommend Bamboo Guerrilla as well. Great fun and perhaps the most erection filled action tale ever made (not sure if that is a recommendation to most, but seriously-stunning pulpy stuff here). But no way, no how would I ever loan a copy of that one out. I think you just grab a bunch and start reading. I find the books really work best by simply reading them and not letting yourself get put off as you find your way through the Smithverse. At the least, you know you'll get SOMETHING you'll not forget. Usually a tramp, nympho or yes...erection.
