Stephen Jones (ed.) - The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror 15 (Robinson, 2004) Les Edwards Stephen Jones - Introduction: Horror In 2003
Ramsey Campbell - Fear The Dead Steve Nagy - The Hanged Man Of Oz Michael Chislett - Mara Marc Laidlaw - Cell Call Pauline E. Dungate - In The Tunnels Dale Bailey - Hunger: A Confession Christopher Fowler - Seven Feet Susan Davis - The Centipede Jay Lake - The Goat Cutter Michael Marshall Smith - Maybe Next Time John Farris - Story Time With The Bluefield Strangler Gene Wolfe - Hunter Lake Scott Emerson Bull - Mr. Sly Stops For A Cup Of Joe Steve Rasnic Tem - The Bereavement Photographer Gemma Files - Kissing Carrion Mark Samuels - The White Hands Caitlin R. Stephen Jones & Kim Newman - Necrology: 2003Includes: Marc Laidlaw - Cell Call: "It's raining where I am and I'm looking at your car." A driver breaks down at night. Lost, he calls his wife on his despised cell phone and she grudgingly comes out to find him. But she can't ... Scott Emerson Bull - Mr. Sly Stops For A Cup Of Joe: If you're going to hold up the local Quik Stop convenience store, make sure none of your hostages is a 350 lb. thrill-killer ... Mark Samuels - The White Hands: More fun and games in Highgate Cemetery featuring the undead Victorian authoress Lilian Blake, whose The Reunion & Others is "supreme in the field of supernatural literature" according to her obsessive literary executive, creepy Alfred Muswell (we later learn he's been banned from visiting her grave by the FOHC because he's become such a nuisance. Now there's a touch of social realism if ever there was!). Murder, grave robbing, a book that drives people insane (the as yet unpublished The White Hands & Other Tales) ... as Ade would say: what is there not to like? Susan Davis - The Centipede: A gigantic, extremely poisonous one with an amber strike. Annie's obnoxious sister-in-law and benefactor Elsa informs her that a friend was attacked by one in the shower. Had to chop it into three pieces and they still kept squirming. Annie lives in the certain knowledge that the centipede will get her and it does, possibly with much assistance from Elsa who is evidently a psychic vampire. ******** VictoriaSteve Nagy - The Hanged Man Of Oz: Totally trippy tale based around the urban legend if you slow down the film "The Wizard Of Oz" it's possible to see a man hanging himself from one of the stage set trees. Michael's latest love Denise is obsessed with the movie and the myth, and Michael finds himself drawn into her obsession with terrifying consequences.

Some good stuff in this one. Besides a rather splendid tale by one M Samuels Mark Laidlaw's is great, Steve Nagy's is worth a read and Mike O'Driscoll's is one of those stories that is weird, unsettling, and inexplicable. Usually I don't like that sort of thing but this is very very good. And the Clark / Lebbon novella rounds things off nicely

I absolutely loved this gripping yet funny story. Does anyone know if any more of SEB's work has been published?

I think his work has mostly appeared in the Small presses up until now, but that will surely change soon enough. Here's his site: Scott Emerson Bull

The hanged Man of Oz: good story, that. Shame it is only a bird, though. A crane or a flamingo or something. www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3FIljj1o2Y'The Bereavment Photogorapher' was pretty damn creepy, and 'The White Hands' by that Mark S chap was a good'un too.
