I'm about to put up issue 3 on my news page. Is it the same price and address for p&p? Craig Oh, gosh, I missed this one! Sorry! It's my address as usual, Craig, and frankly I'm not too worried about selling it. It doesn't cost much to put out and Steve has already given up immediate plans of using the profits to buy a new HD TV. As before, if people ask for more than one copy, a couple of quid for each extra one helps with costs. Wonderful illustrations! Since I'm new round here, can somebody tell me - what is Filthy Creations and how do I get hold of it? Like Dem says, if you'd like to see a copy, Caroline, just PM me with your address.

Having now read no3, I have to say I'm impressed. Each and every story deserves to have seen print, and they are quite varied in tone and subject matter. The illustrations are superb. The 'production values' (horrible phrase!) are spot on - as good as or even better than the majority of small press genre magazines. If Rog and Steve ever decided they wanted to up the ante and go for a wider audience etc etc I'm sure they'd have no problem at all.
What comes through very strongly (as it did with 'The BBoH') is that it is written and put together by people who genuinely love and care for the genre, which is something to be treasured.

Apologies too Rog as I missed your . I think its well worth the money anyway. Do you keep a list of subscribers - that would be a good idea.
I'll do my usual pompous egocentric advert then and hope it generates some wider interest

Time I started replying to some of these comments - for which thanks to all. If Rog and Steve ever decided they wanted to up the ante and go for a wider audience etc etc I'm sure they'd have no problem at all. I'm not quite sure how to take "wider audience", Sean. Do you mean widen the appeal of the magazine by using fiction from other genres or increasing the "distribution". I would like to see an even greater range of story genres included. I wish it were possible to use longer pieces (the physical difficulty of fastening the pages in a home-produced magazine rules out very long stories at the moment). It's occurred to me that in time it might be a good idea to issue a Best of... anthology, but it feels too early to do that; and with Black Books forthcoming I feel there'd be a danger of flooding the market! Do you keep a list of subscribers - that would be a good idea. I keep all addresses in a big Word file. I will be sending more FCs out to those who've requested it in the past. Just once or twice in the very early days I sent 'complimentary' copies out to some people who hadn't asked for them. That was a mistake prompted by overenthusiasm at the time. I won't be repeating it. The only way that I can imagine internet advertising actually generating interest would be if the adverts read "seeking submissions".

I'll check the names you gave me in a PM, Craig. I have a feeling I should start forwarding copies to my co-editor for his signature as well. He can double-check them at the same time by making sure all the pages are there, too. Stuff would get done a hell of a lot faster if I wasn't neurotically checking stuff over and over again! Steve says it's time I contributed a story myself. He's got one in FC 4. Maybe I should start doing something in the workshop besides reading other peoples stuff.

Yes Rog, the secret of success is delegation, co ownership several beers and a devil may care attitude - hang on, it didn't work for me?
But you should definitely contribute a story or two. No use having you own mag if you can't published in it. Plus I'd like to see an illustrated by Rog, Rog tale.

This means I need to fit possibly a 5000 word story into FC 4 - which Steve reckons should be possible, along with his story and those by Sean, Noah and Franklin - illustrate it, print out and post the remaining FC 3s, catch up with comments on workshop stories, comment on the Hub Flash Fiction special and take a look at the latest Pantechnicon, finish writing up the Times Book of Ghost Stories, complete copying and post disks (5 or 6 to go at latest count), get some late lunch... Oh, and get into work for evening shift... Hah! should be a doddle. Maybe I'll have time for a new piece of flash fiction, too. Nearly forgot - There's the new Paperback Fanatic to proofread, too. OK, maybe not a new piece of flash fiction then.

I'm with Craig, I'd really like to see a story of yours, illustrated by you. Put it in the issue after then! Honestly, you act as if we expect to much of you

Honestly, you act as if we expect to much of you I really should stop the dramatics, after all Dem does that sort of thing so much better. I've even got Steve wondering! Truth is, Coral, I'm just not terribly efficient and let things slide, then I have to struggle just to stay in the same place. Anyway, what I really need to do is start writing again, even if it's revising old stuff. So I've just started a revision in the workshop. Now if I can't find the rest of that piece to work on, it's going to be embarrassing! Hmm, this could be interesting... possibly not in a good way.

With everyone willing you on rog I think writers' block is now virtually inevitable Since the two posts I made earlier, my computer succumbed (however you spell it) to crap USB connections (I thought) - namely those connecting the scanner and the internet. This meant I couldn't OCR-scan another instalment of my story for the workshop and couldn't have posted it if I did. Then after wasting all afternoon, I thought "Why not use 'Restore and Resume! '" Hell I'm slow sometimes... God. Talk about a Homer Simpson afternoon. Doh!

My copy of FC3 arrived the other day - many thanks Rog. I have to agree with Sean (I think it was Sean?) about "production values". I must admit, I was expecting a photocopied booklet - professional, but not nearly as professional as it actually is. Brilliant! And the illustrations, Rog - they're wonderful!
I've only had time to read one story so far - Peter Coady's "The Standing Man" - and this was great; melancholy and very, very haunting. If the rest are as good (which I'm sure they will be), this is a fantastic publication. Well done folks!
